Awesome tone great playability and a beauty to look at!
What is your overall opinion of this product?
This is not your ordinary looking Stat. That's what drew my eyes to it. I knew I wanted Texas Special pups. All of the features plus a hard case added up to be the best vale for the dollar. This is the first guitar purchase made online and I was always nervous about not getting to try it out first. Not an issue here. Came set up with 9s and was pretty much in tune right out of the case. I play with 10s and once I got those on wow this thang spanks! I was impressed with the care AMS put into every step in my purchase from order to shipping updates. I you are on the fence whether or not to buy online, get off and do it! No regrets. I love this guitar!
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Quality is spot on what I would expect from Fender. I have played a MIM Strat since around 2000. I still love that one too but there is just so much more life in this Rustic Ash Strat. More bark and bite. Mellow but full. More sustain. Most noticeable when applying vibrato while bending a note. On my MIM I know where the note is going to die but on this thing it just gets started. Enough typing gonna go play!
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Besides a bit different neck shape and a bit fatter fret wire than I am used to, this guitar felt like home the instan I picked it up.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
Warm and mellow or loud and proud. This thing has it all. I love the way you can feel the sustain vibrate through the body guitar and you get that same vibration from the amp.
How did the stain or paint job look?
The wood grain of the ash looks awesome against the brown anodized aluminum pick guard. Just the right amount of Arctic White to give it a creamy finish.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
This was a great deal for the money. I also like the fact that it is a limited production FSR run. Not sure how many of these were made?
How was the action out of the box?
Action is about right on out of the box. The only set up I did was adjusting the tremolo claw after I restrung it with a heavier gauge strings.
