I am a veteran Fender player. I have owned and played all Fender products since 1960 and I must say the quality on this instrument is on par with all of the ones I have owned, Strat, Tele, Jazzmaster and Jaguar. No flaws whatsoever and in fact is one of the best fits and finishes I have ever seen on a guitar
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I have had this one for about a year now and used it a lot. Not a single problem with it. I had 10 gauge strings on it and just tried 11s and it sounds awesome.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
I tried every tele out there before buying this one. The pine body really resonates for highs and lows. In fact I tried the 52 Vintage Telecaster and then this one. I liked this one better because when I played the vintage tele the bridge pickup was too muffled and very low even cranked up. With this baby I can play any volume on any pickup and feel comfortable knowing I have the power I need all the time. I even gig with this baby and have done music ranging from Rock to Jazz with it, playing a variety of venues and this tele shines through with bands no matter how hard they play. I'm thinking on getting another it's that good!
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The neck feels great. It's fast and a perfect size for flat picks, thumb picks and finger picking. I even joked around with it and played a classical piece on it. I still own the vintage models Fenders I mentioned above and they play great. This guitar has somehow become my favorite our of all of them. You can get to the controls easily, the neck is super all the way up to the last fret. It feels roomy and very comfortable. You can play this thing for days and not get tired.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Tones go from very bright, snappy, dark, jazzy, smooth whatever you want this guitar can do it all with no sweat. I use a Fender Super Reverb amp with it but just bought a Blues 2 Jr and it sounds great through both. Highs are tele all the way but not a tin sounding tele like some can be. It is a high solid sound just right for country pickers. Some of the tele's in my opinion sound high but like they have tin strings. This definitely does not. I think the pine body helps a lot.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Finish is impeccable. Not a flaw to be found and trust me I'm the picky one when it comes to my guitars. I own 16 of them.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Action out of the box was good. I made a couple slight adjustments changing the strings to 11's but the action out of the box is totally playable. Everyone likes to adjust to their settings if they have played for a while. I recommend this guitar highly and trust me you won't put it down once you get it. I have been playing since I was 9 and now have retired and am still playing. What more fun can one have in life? You won't be sorry if this is your choice guitar. If you are on a budget or not this axe is worth the bucks without hesitation. Get one and see for yourself but do what I did, go to a center and play it before hand you won't want to put it down. Also thanks to AMS I can now build a guitar collection much easier. Their easy pay plans are great! Nice work AMS!
