The Fender Deluxe Active Precision Bass Special with Maple Fingerboard combines the best of both the classic P bass and the sleek Jazz bass! The Deluxe Active P Bass Special features an alder P Bass body and fast, modern C shape Jazz Bass neck for incredible playing comfort and feel. Onboard electronics include a P/J pickup configuration and an impressive 3-band EQ – all U.S. electronic components. 

A gold anodized pickguard, a side-mounted output jack and chrome hardware gives this bass a unique look that will set you apart from the rest. The Deluxe Active Precision Bass Special is proudly built by Fender employees in their modern facility Ensenada Baja California, Mexico. A deluxe gig bag is included.

Very well made fit and finish are great - lots of compliments on the white pearl/gold combination. Very dependable - I gig with this bass almost exclusively now.

Love the C-shaped neck and the active electronics. I added a gold Gotoh high-mass bridge to mine and it's a HAMMER. Tone, tone, tone!

Your general opinion of this product.
I play blues, country, classic rock and this bass is well-suited to all three styles. As I said above, this is my #1 instrument over my American Standard Jazz Bass.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Tone is whatever you want - from fat and dark to bright. Active electronics are responsive to technique so it's easy to get any tone you want from this bass.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The white pearl is gorgeous! The gold pickguard (plastic) looks good, but I'm going to replace it with anodized aluminum. I replaced the stock bridge with a gold Gotoh high-mass bridge; gold tuners and knobs will be next. I think Fender should offer this bass in white and gold with all gold hardware...
