Fender Champion 600 Guitar Combo Amplifier

The Fender Champion 600 is a fun, affordable tribute to a rare amp.
The new Champion 600 is a 5-Watt tube amp with a 6-inch speaker and 1950 two-tone looks. They added a higher-gain preamp circuit to let the overdriven tone exceed that of the original, and added a choice of high- or low-gain inputs. Internal speaker jack enables use of a larger speaker cabinet. Only 15 pounds, a great little tube amp for recording or practicing.

Fender Champion 600 Features

  • Tube Preamp and Tube Power Amp: One 12AX7 tube; One 6V6 tube.
  • 5 watts into a 6-inch Special Design speaker.
  • High-gain and low-gain inputs; hotter preamp circuit than the 1950 original for warm natural overdrive when turned up.
  • Single volume control.
  • External speaker output.
  • Brown and blonde vinyl covering; vintage-correct 1950 two-tone cosmetics.
  • Leather strap handle.
  • Red jewel pilot light.

In that time, Fender’s contribution to the evolving sound of contemporary music has been global and continuous. By introducing the first commercially viable solidbody electric guitar, the first electric bass and countless classic amplifiers, Fender musical instruments have left their mark on jazz, blues, country, rock and many other styles of popular music.

Today, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation continues to offer its timeless electric guitar designs such as the Telecaster and Stratocaster to players around the world, but the Fender family has grown to include several distinctive musical instrument brands, including Squier, Guild, and Benedetto. Subject:IT'S A SMOKER!
Quality: Not a bad build for the price. See additional comments for further info...
Reliability: Only had it for a short time but suspect it will last. Fender stuff usually does.
Overall: As with all Fender tube amps that are not of the "hand wired" variety,, swap out tubes right out of the box. Don't even bother "seeing how it sounds first". You WILL improve the tone and feel with fairly inexpensive Tung Sol or Electro-Harmonix tubes. DEFINATELY GO WITH THE MERCURY MAGNETICS UPGRADE PACKAGE!!(Check out thier web page) It's a bit costly, but you'll keep and use this amp with the upgrade FOR LIFE and be the envy of ALL!!!
Playability and Feel: A TOTAL SMOKER WITH THE MERC MAG UPGRADE! Without the upgrade, you can get some much, MUCH improved tone and feel with a tube swap, (obviously, put some NOS RCA tubes in and it will sound fantastic- but Electro-Harmonics or Tung Sol's will show a noticeable improvement as well).
Tone: You can also improve your tone and overall sound by purchaceing a 14 gauge speaker cable, (AMS carries CBI speaker cables on the cheap that are total BEEF!!). Cleanly slice one end off of the CBI, measure the remaining length against the cable suplied with the amp, add 2", then solder your leads to the speaker useing foil to completely protect the speaker while soldering. Make sure to match the +/- properly, (The white wire on the CBI is +). You WILL notice an improvement in sound!
Finish: Good retro attempt. It's a pretty cool looking amp.

Subject:Beautiful Looking and Sounding Amp
Overall:

QUALITY:
This amp is well made. It looks and feels solid. Fit and finish are first rate

FEATURES:
This is a basic amp with simple features. I gave it a five because all of the features are very useful and function the way they should.

EASE OF USE:
A simple as you can get for an amp. It only has a volume knob (that goes to 12).

VALUE:
The price is very reasonable. I think Fender got the price right on this one.

SOUND:
Beatiful clean sound and a sweet, creamy overdriven sound. Neck pup on my SG standard with amp volume at 10+, pup volume at 8 and tone at 1 to 2 gives the sweetest sound ever!
"The best feature of AMS is its ability to offer customers the option of payments. Many of us cannot afford to outlay a chunk of cash for an item. And, AMS provides a payment option unlike a credit card that really is a godsend for musicians who are broke most of the time." Nov '08
