Fostex MR8 MKII Multitrack Digital RecorderThe Fostex MR8 mkII is the easiest to use digital multitrack ever. If you can operate a tape recorder, you’ll be recording and multitracking within minutes of opening the box. It records to affordable Compact Flash cards.
By putting all the major controls and functions right there on the top panel instead of buried in a confusing menu system, the MR-8 Mk II, unlike some other recorders, actually aids you in capturing your musical ideas. In addition there’s great sounding built-in digital effects, guitar amp and mic simulators, 2 mic inputs with +48V Phantom Power, handy mix-down effects, plus the ability to hook up to a PC for data editing, and backing up your songs. New for the Mk II is the USB host feature which allows for the easy connection of an "off-the-shelf" CD-R burner via USB. Making CD masters has never been more simple. Fostex MR8 mkII Features

| It's plastic, and the pots seem as if they would break if you're any more aggressive on them then you were a baby. The faders work nicely enough, remember you're only playing like ~$250 or so for it. It just seems cheaply made (which it evidently was). | | Features:
| The preamps aren't that great, and I rarely use the reverb/delay since I export the audio to my computer for mixing and such. I also don't use the amp/mic simulator buttons on there either so I can't really tell you how good all that is. | | Ease of Use:
| It was so simple that I was using it with no prior experience at all within hours before learning that I can download the manual. | | Sound:
| Decent for demo recording, and very far from professional sounding. What can you expect though if you're paying only $250 for a device? | | Reliability:
| It's pretty reliable. I've had it for only about 5-6 months now and it's stood up to me recording an entire demo on it (but I treated it like a princess so...). | | Overall:
| It's a good piece of starter equipment for those who want to get into recording but are on a budget. It could use a few things, like sturdier pots and faders, but *again* I only payed $250 for it, and I got what I payed for. | |

QUALITY: The unit does seem well made. The sliders and knobs were fairly sturdy, and all operated well. Unfortunately, I returned this item due to a bug which interfered with my recordings (said bug is noted in the manual) -- "If you make recording or editing to a song many times, audio may be occasionally interrupted when the song is played back, due to data fragmentation. Note that this is not a malfunction." Unless of course you consider a skip in the track you just recorded a "malfunction" -- sorry I do.
FEATURES: The best feature is to be able to manipulate the levels for the tracks physically with sliders (as opposed to software) -- but this is true of other similar units. The lack of EQ is disappointing. The effects are decent, but could be better. Track bouncing could be improved.
EASE OF USE: The MR8 is fairly easy to use. The process for recording multiple times is a bit counter-intuitive. It would have been nice if they had | |

QUALITY: I think the quality is good .Only the 13 knobs which you have to turn seem like they could break it you put a little to much pressure on them, but just be gentle when you turn them.Oh those 13 would be 4 effect send,4pan 2 mic trim,1reverb/delay,1 headphone vol,and 1 guitar distortion. Everything else seems to be solid in place.
FEATURES: The features are ok I just wanted it to come with a cd burner on it,but for $250 thats what you get. The jog dial is good. It has a mic simulation which includes tube, dynamic and condensor which I never use because I really don't find them useful to me.It has an usb and usb host which is the best feature on here to me. Since theres not a cd burner on here you can use and external on with the usb. Be sure to check the brand burner you use because all of them are not compatible with the recorder and they don't let you know that at first. One that works is an Iomega.
EASE OF USE: Its very easy |
