Fxpansion BFD XFL Expanion Pack Software

Fxpansion BFD XFL is the first add-on pack for FXpansion's BFD premium acoustic software drum module, expanding and intensifying the BFD system. BFD XFL's 5 DVDs arm you with 22GB of hyper-detailed drum components, all recorded with the same top-end studio gear and microphones as the original. BFD XFL revisits Eldorado Studio to give you the same lush ambience that gave BFD its unique, authentic character.

Extended Sonic Possibilities
BFD XFL expands upon the sonic possibilities of the original BFD by providing a broader range of Kit-Pieces, some struck with brushes and mallets, toms with damping tape on the skins, and a kick with a felt beater. The cymbal collection is diversified with splashes, chinas and accents, while all rides include bell samples. BFD XFL also gives you a selection of kit-oriented percussion hits, including cowbells, jamblocks, tambourines, and even handclaps and fingersnaps.

Unparalleled Realism
Some of the new BFD XFL snares have up to 93 velocity layers, offering unparalleled realism and responsiveness. Also featured are incredibly detailed hihats which are equipped with not only the closed, 1/2-open and open positions of the original BFD, but also 1/4-open and 3/4-open positions. This makes BFD respond even more naturally, especially when using an electronic drum-pad system.

Rare and Sought-After Kit-Pieces
BFD XFL brings you closer to assembling your dream kit, by providing a range of exclusive and unique Kit-Pieces. A variety of hard-to-find snares are supplied, such as a Pearl Chad Smith signature and a vintage 1940s WFL Ludwig dual strainer. A huge selection of rare and desirable cymbals are featured, including an antique Bosphorus ride with rivets, and many artist stock prototype rides and crashes.

BFD XFL Frequently Asked Questions

What does XFL stand for?
Whatever you want it to :) - but it's certainly Xtra Large.

Does BFD XFL require an original copy of BFD?
Yes. BFD XFL is an expansion pack only, and will not work without an original copy of BFD. You must have at least v1.08 of BFD in order to use BFD XFL.

What kit pieces are included in BFD XFL, and what about brushes and mallets?
BFD includes a wide variety of new kit pieces, some of which are also hit with brushes and mallets. A full list is available.

How much disk space is required for BFD XFL?
23GB is required to install BFD XFL in its entirety (plus 9GB for the original BFD), but you do not have to install all the kit pieces.

Do I have to install all of BFD XFL?
No. You can install only the kit pieces you want.

Why aren't there brush and mallet hits for every single kit piece?
With data space constrained, there is naturally a trade off between how detailed an individual kit piece's data can be, and the variety of kit pieces covered. We aimed to provide a smaller selection of great-sounding pieces recorded with these sticks rather than compromise the number or quality of kit pieces recorded overall.

Should I be worried about sonic compatibility with the original BFD?
Not at all. We used exactly the same room, mics, mixer, monitors and outboard gear.. - not to mention personnel! We went to considerable effort to make sure that the overhead, room and PZM mics were positioned the same as for the original BFD session.

Please explain the multi-position hi-hats to me?
The multi position hi-hats are recorded at multiple velocities (as with all BFD kit pieces) but also at multiple pedal positions - so as well as the usual open, half and closed hi-hat hits, you also have 1/4-open and 3/4-open articulations. Using these hi-hats greatly enhances the feel of BFD when playing from V-Drums and other e-drum kits.

How do you use the extras like cow bells, temple blocks, finger snaps etc.?
These are available on the "Cymbal" slots. A forthcoming free update to BFD includes "Wild card" slots, which allow you to use these without sacrificing a cymbal slot.

Does BFD XFL include any new MIDI Grooves for the Groove Librarian?
No, XFL does not include any new MIDI Grooves. We will be releasing a large collection of grooves for free to all registered BFD users in the near future.

Does BFD XFL include any updates or feature enhancements for the BFD engine?
No. XFL is expansion content only. Feature enhancements and updates to the BFD engine will continue to be made available to all registered BFD users.
