    Product Description

Gibson's thinline semi-hollow ES models were an instant hit because of their marriage of solid maple top and solidbody electric designs. Now the Gibson Limited Edition Midtown Custom Electric Guitar takes all of the legendary ES properties a step further, maximizing each design goal, while adding a rich, deep resonance all its own. With a trimmed-down and body size that still emulates the lines of the ES, but built with the chambered solid-wood construction, the Gibson Midtown Custom truly embodies the optimum marriage of solidbody and archtop.

Gibson Limited Edition Midtown Custom Electric Guitar Features

    • Chambered Mahogany body with solid Maple top
    • Mahogany neck with '60s SlimTaper neck profile
    • Richlite fingerboard with acrylic block inlays
    • Burstbucker 1 in the neck and Burstbucker 2 in the bridge
    • Grover kidney button tuners with 14:1 tuning ratio
The Midtown Custom guitar from Gibson starts with premium tonewoods, using Grade-A timbers beneath the translucent finish options. A solid mahogany body is strategically chambered for optimum resonance and capped with a solid maple top with traditional f-holes, which is finished in a high-gloss finish.

    Neck and Fingerboard
The Midtown Custom’s solid mahogany neck is carved to a fast, comfortable '60s-style profile that measures .800 inches at the 1st fret and .875 inches at the 12th. The neck is topped with a smooth fingerboard for a great look to add to it's incredible feel.

Tidy white binding accentuates the fingerboard of the Gibson Midtown Custom, while multi-ply binding graces the body and headstock. The rich, dark fingerboard is enhanced with acrylic block inlays plus split-diamond inlays dress the headstock in the classic style of upmarket Gibson models.

Plugged in, this elegant hotrod runs the gamut of legendary Les Paul-to-ES tones, thanks to a pair of BurstBucker pickups, two of Gibson's finest vintage-PAF-style humbuckers, and classic four-knob wiring with three-way toggle selector. A BurstBucker 1 in the neck position yields warm, throaty blues and jazz tones with plenty of clarity, while a slightly hotter BurstBucker 2 in the bridge provides more growl and bite for anything from hot country to rock 'n' roll, while together the pair provides round, slinky, funky rhythm tones.

These great humbuckers from Gibson USA are made with genuine unpolished Alnico II magnets and wound with 42 AWG wire, just like the legendary PAFs of the late '50s and early '60s. In the hardware department, the Gibson Midtown Custom carries the classic pairing of Tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, and a set of premium Grover kidney button tuners up top.

    One of Gibson's best
    Product Rating
What is your opinion of this product?
This is what a Gibson guitar should be. Well made and not cost a fortune. When you think of the fact that it has a tonally carved solid mahogany body (just like a CS336 which costs $3600!), a solid maple top, burstbucker pickups, Grover tuners, 7-ply binding, block inlays, bone nut and a brown Gibson case with the pink interior for just $1500, you cannot go wrong with this. Plus you can access the controls from the back plate. I have had both a 335(too big) and both a 339 and a 336(too small). This is the perfect size. And the Richlite fingerboard feels just like ebony. Plays like a dream. If you can find one, I recommend you grab it as they are no longer being made. Figures..

    Very nice guitar.
What is your opinion of this product?
Guitar came out of the box ready to play, did not have to adjust anything. Fit and finish is spot on. Love the sound, half way between a Less Paul (Lot lighter) and and ES-335. The flat top caught me off guard at first, but after playing it all weekend it is a perfect fit for my style of playing. Been playing over 45 years and have many guitars and this one is worth the price, good job Gibson.

Nice guitar, however not delivered as promised
What is your opinion of this product?
I like the guitar. But the bridge was not set at the factory for optimum performance as advertised when delivered. It was all the way down and unplayable. I had to spend a couple hours adjusting it to even play, and it's probably still not perfect. Eventually I should have it right. But not knowing what I am doing, it will take many tries. Somewhat disappointed for a 1500 guitar. Fenders and Martin's are playable out of box. Not too happy.

    Worth every penny
What is your opinion of this product?
There's a definite "wow" factor with this guitar. Deep, glossy, silky feeling nitro finish and Custom appointments and all. The guitar is closer to an LP tonally than it is to an ES, but the tone is sweeter and you can get some airy semi-hollow tone if you play with the pickup adjustments. The richlite is smooth without being too plasticky feeling, it's a nice playing surface. A guy on one of the LP boards "aged" the binding on his and it looked quite good. I wish Gibson had gone with a yellower binding but that's my only aesthetic complaint. This guitar has real presence but the ergonomics are reasonable for hours of playing. Mine weighs just under 8 pounds. It always seems like it was a good deal at $1,500, that's for sure. Still saying wow when I open the case eight months on.

    Solid Gibson
What is your opinion of this product?
This guitar is great, get it while its still in stock. After a pro set up it plays smooth and the intonation is amazing. Played single notes along with a keyboard and couldn't hear the difference, the guitar was so spot on. I am really happy with this Gibson since before i had a les paul studio but that thing was a train wreck which i payed 1399 for, this is def worth 1499 and i will say its better built than some $2-$3k guitars. The richlite fingerboard is nice and has a brighter ring to it which, as a Tele lover, I'm totally ok with and it plays a lot like an ebony fingerboard. Truth is woods are getting pricier and the fingerboard is a move forward for guitar players who can't want something solid and make an investment in. I stress this guitar is amazing and well worth the money. Get it while you still can! Thanks americanmusical for the payment plans and speedy customer service which helped me make this purchase and has helped and aspiring guitarist like me reach new heights
