Gibson

The Gibson Flying V Government Series Electric Guitar is a unique, extremely limited edition guitar that represents a very interesting moment in Gibson’s history. In August of 2011, the US government seized rosewood fingerboard blanks from Gibson’s Nashville factory in a raid. That rosewood was later returned to Gibson once they reached an agreement with the Justice Department and now Gibson USA features this rosewood on these incredible instruments. The Government Series Flying V is limited to only 300 guitars and is sure to be highly collectable.

  • Five-ply pickguard that is hot-stamped in gold with the Government Series emblem

Tonewoods
This guitar features the classic solid-mahogany body for superb depth and warmth. The legendary Flying V body design provides great playing balance and those killer looks that made it an instant classic. A solid, quarter-sawn mahogany neck is glued in and carved to a fast, slim profile. The neck is topped with an unbound fingerboard made from genuine, one-piece rosewood that was once confiscated, then returned to Gibson by the US government.

Electronics
The Government Series Flying V’s aggressive looks are complimented tonally by a pair of legendary Dirty Fingers+ humbuckers, an update of one of the two most powerful pickup designs Gibson has ever. Made with three Ceramic 8 magnets and over-wound coils packed with 44 AWG wire, the Dirty Fingers+ humbucker provides unfathomable crunch and unparalleled sustain. A traditional two volume, master tone control section features black Speed Knobs and the guitar’s Tune-o-matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece, and Grover tuners are all plated in black.

Each Government Series Flying V guitar comes protected in a special olive green Government Series hardshell case, and includes a Certificate of Authenticity hand signed by Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, an owner’s manual, adjustment literature and truss-rod tool.

Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
This product is made really well, with quality components and great craftsmanship.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I have not had this guitar long, but am sure it will withstand the test of time.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
I am blown away with this guitar. Really like the finish and all black hardware. I have not seen any other V's with black hardware and a black pick guard.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
This guitar feels great! Very comfortable to play.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
This guitar sounds great, it has a lot of chuck to it. I really like the idea of the dirty fingers + pick ups.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The satin government grey finish really gives this guitar it's character. Looks really good with all of the black appointments.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
The action was good, but had to change the "brite wires" out to (9-42) blue steels.
