Product Description

The Gibson ES335 Memphis DOT Plain Gloss Top gives you the resonance of a solid body and the refines looks of a traditional Gibson archtop with the reduced weigt of a thinline.
Today’s ES335 continues to provide the tone and the look that inspires musicians in blues, rock and jazz. The American Made Memphis Series DOT Reissue features a maple body, a mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard, two Gibson 1957 Classic humbuckers and Grover tuners.

From Chuck Berry to Larry Carlton, Freddie King to Alvin Lee, the Gibson ES335 has proven to be one of the most popular and adaptable guitars ever created. Touted as the wonder thin body by Gibson when it launched in 1958, the ES335 represented a ground breaking innovation in electric guitars. With its solid maple center block and f hole semi hollowbody design, the ES335 effectively delivers the singing sustain of a solidbody while preserving the tone and richness of a full hollowbody, with no feedback.

The Custom Shop has made several changes to more accurately reflect an original ES335, including a period correct center block resulting in ten to fifteen percent weight reduction, a slightly thinner body, and lower binding height.

With its Patent Applied For decal on the baseplate, the 1957 Classic and 1957 Classic Plus are faithful replicas of the famous Gibson humbuckers that helped define the music of the late 1950s.

While this timeless beauty gives you a tone that is warm and subtle with full, even response, it doesn’t hold back when you need that classic Gibson humbucker crunch!

The 1957 Classic features Gibson’s special Alnico II magnet, vintage enamel coated wire, nickel plated pole pieces, nickel slugs, maple spacers and vintage-style, two-conductor, braided wiring.

Overall Rating
Stunning Guitar
What is your overall opinion of this product?
I have always wanted to own a 335. I finally sprung for it and was not disappointed at all. The fit and finish is outstanding and the guitar is beautiful to look at. A true work of art.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
I would expect a Custom Shop guitar from Gibson to be an exceptional instrument and I was not wrong. It is a fabulous guitar that has tone forever. You can literally play just about everything on this.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
I have always liked the feel of the necks on my Gibsons whether they be 50's or 60's styles. This neck has that satin feel that makes your hand glide up and down the neck.If you own any other Gibson guitars you know what this is like when using the controls. Two volume, two tone pots that both turn with a feeling you only get from a top of the line instrument.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The best thing about an ES 335 is the variety of tones that it has to offer from being a semi hollow body guitar. It can play the sweetest jazz and then you make an adjustment and that 50's rock 'n roll sound is there. Crank it up and play classic rock of all kinds. Truly a guitar for a large variety of musical tastes.
How did the stain or paint job look?
I bought this as a dent sale from AMS and was worried about the finish. Wow was I wrong. Although I did find the blemish I bet it would take the average person at least 15 minutes to find the tiny little paint blem. This guitar is GORGEOUS! The Cherry Red even looks beautiful from across the room!
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Since I got this at a discounted price I can clearly say that this guitar was a gift! It is worth every penny Gibson gets for it in today's market.
How was the action out of the box?
The action and set up was so good out of the box I was quite shocked. Maybe it was set up before I got it at the store, I can't be sure, but it was spot on!
