Gibson

The Gibson Les Paul Custom was originally intended to be called the Les Paul Deluxe when it was introduced in 1954. This elegantly enhanced, more expensive version of the Les Paul Model was one of Gibson's responses to the idea that there was room to grow in its new solidbody line on both sides of the original Les Paul's price point.

In 1957, Patent Applied For humbuckers became standard issue on both the Les Paul Models and the Les Paul Custom. To go along with its already upscale appointments, the Les Paul Custom was even made available with three of these quiet, powerful new pickups.

No matter where a Gibson Les Paul is seen - in the hands of a star performer, silhouetted in a guitar dealer's ad, or cast in brass and incorporated into the architecture of a restaurant - it is universally recognized as the symbol of rock and roll music.

From basic no-frills guitars to elegant showpieces, the guitars of the Les Paul Series are the standard-bearers of Gibson's excellence.

The Les Paul Custom, introduced in 1954, has been affectionately nicknamed the Black Beauty and the Fretless Wonder. By any name, it has always represented the highest level of elegance and beauty in the Les Paul family.
