"Excellent updated version of the Les Paul"
General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
With so many guitars out there these days, this is refreshing change.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
What can you say about Gibson quality other than "It doesn't get much better than a Les Paul.
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Excellent neck. Feels like one of the SG's I owned in the 70s. Updated P90 in the neck, and a full humbucker in the bridge. Coil taps on each pickup and a boost button built into one of the tone controls. And don't forget about the fast control knobs. And the etune system.
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
I usually play Strats and Teles and PRS. This Les Paul is different from all of my others. The P90 has less of a fat humbucker sound and has a bit more bite in normal mode and a lot of bite in the coil tap mode. Brige humbucker has a very clean and distinct sound and when you use the coil tap, you get a really nice single coil sound. Not like a strat or a tele but it sounds very good, and the sustain goes on forever.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
I have the blue one and it has a really excellent look. More of a semi flat finish, but very attractive and classy looking.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
They run about $1250 new and in my opinion after playing it for couple of days, worth every penny.
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
Played well right out of the case, although 2 strings were not intonated right, so I fixed that and now its perfect. The tuning system was a little strange getting used to, but it does work and fairly fast too. You turn it on and then strum each string from low E to high E, and it pretty much nails it. Sometimes you have to do it twice if your picky like me.
