Product Description

The Les Paul Standard Plus 2013 with Grade-AAA figured top has always been the cornerstone of the Gibson USA lineup. Matching innovation with tone and playability, the Standard Plus 2013 key features include a superbly comfortable new asymmetrical rendition of the SlimTaper neck profile that fits the player’s hand like a glove, a compound-radius rosewood fingerboard, and stealth wiring for the great BurstBucker Pro 1 and 2 pickups that provides individual coil splitting, phase reversal, and Pure Bypass switching all without changing the look of the classic control layout.

Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus 2013 Electric Guitar Features

  • Solid Mahogany body with your choice of grade AAA figured top
  • Mahogany neck with compound radius
  • Rosewood fingerboard with asymmetrical SlimTaper profile
  • Two Coil-tapped BurstBucker Pro Humbuckers
  • TonePros Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece
  • Grover Locking kidney tuners with 18:1 tuning ratio
  • Includes Plush-lined Gibson Hardshell Case
The Les Paul Standard 2013 follows the same formula as the most beloved Les Pauls of all time. The guitar shows off its looks with a gorgeous Grade-AAA top for outrageous looks. The marriage of solid maple top and mahogany back, treated to Gibson’s new modern weight relief pattern for improved comfort and enhanced resonance, provides a blend of richness, depth, punch, and clarity that no single-wood guitar can provide.

Neck Profile
A solid, quarter-sawn mahogany neck is carved in a new asymmetrical version of the popular ’60s profile, making it one of the most appealing necks Gibson has ever produced, and its topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard with a superbly playable compound radius that’s rounder down in the open chord positions and flatter up in the lead zone. Traditional trapezoid inlays keep it all looking just right, along with cream binding, pickguard, and pickup rings, amber top-hat knobs, and a traditional black-and-white bell truss rod cover. Classic Gibson constructional elements ensure the new Les Paul Standard plays just like the greatest Standards ever, with traditional specs like a 24 3/4 inch scale length, and a 1 11/16 inch width across the PLEK-cut Corian nut.

BurstBucker Pro Pickups
The Les Paul Standard’s real surprises lurk in its upgraded pickups and extremely clever wiring and control setup. A pair of BurstBucker Pro pickups, a #1 in the neck position and #2 in the bridge, follow the blueprint for Gibson’s hallowed PAF humbuckers of the late ’50s, but are updated with potted coils for howl-free performance at high volumes, and four-conductor wiring that allows for incredible versatility. The independent volume pot for each pickup has push-pull switching to independently split the coils for single-coil tones, with hum-cancelling performance in the middle position thanks to a reverse-wound/reverse-polarity bridge pickup. Pop up the neck pickup’s tone control for reverse-phase tones, or lift the bridge pickup’s tone knob to tap Gibson’s new Pure Bypass setting, which routes that pickup straight through to the output jack, bypassing the volume and tone controls for a hotter, clearer sound, making it a great instant lead preset. The innovative pairing of a locking TonePros Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece ensures solid sustain and precise intonation, while a set of high-quality locking Grover kidney-button tuners ensures smooth, accurate tuning.

Each guitar comes protected in a plush-lined hardshell case with black exterior, and includes owner's manual and adjustment literature, along with Gibson's Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Subject
"Better then my 1980 les paul custom"
General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
Quality is much better then in the past. It took hundreds of bucks to make my 1980 les paul play as good as my 2013 les paul.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
It came with a broken volume knob. I planned on speed knobs anyway. Setup was right on. Great for any style of music. I mostly play blues and rock, but my wife and I write also and it covers them all.
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Its 2+lbs. lighter then my 1980. The new neck and fretboard are much faster and easier on the hands. With the new speed knobs the push-pull pots are easier to engage.
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
My 1980 LP custom has three gibson humbuckers. Two dirtyfingers and a 496R, plus custom wiring. The new 2013 standard sounds better and covers the single coil sounds better. Almost as good as my Fender telecaster.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Mine was the AAA quilted maple top in tea burst. Every part of the finish is GREAT. No issues at all.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Mine was a closeout paid $2450.00 for it. Almost got a Carvin. My wife plays a Carvin 5 string bass with a quilted maple top and it is perfect. My new Gibson is its equal.
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
Perfect out of the box. Just had to tune.
