Body and Neck
Encounter the clever structural alteration that gives this new model its name by taking the instrument in your hands and running your fingers up the neck. The Axcess sports what looks from the front to be a traditional Les Paul neck joint, yet the neck heel and portions of the back and neck joint at the upper cutaway have been contoured to provide a heelless feel, and an unimpeded reach right up to the 22nd fret. No more stretching against the traditional neck heel to achieve the upper-fret access that your lead style demands — the Axcess gives you that legendary Les Paul playability all the way up the neck, welcoming you to take it right over the top. The one-piece, 24 3/4 inch scale length, mahogany neck features a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid trapezoid fingerboard inlays.
To further enhance playing comfort, this smoothly carved neck joint is combined with a belly scarf (aka ribcage contour) that allows the body of the guitar to hug closely to your own body in the playing position without digging in. Add to these contours the Les Paul Axcess’s slightly thinner body, made from weight-relieved mahogany – with a carved maple top available in Iced Tea Burst or Gun Metal Gray finishes and single-ply cream binding on body top – and you’ve got an instrument that is refreshingly light, and a pure joy to play either strapped on, or in a seated position.
Hardware
The most noticeable addition is the Floyd Rose tailpiece, a unit optimized for anything from subtle vibrato wobbles to dramatic, rumbling divebombs. On the Axcess, the vibrato is installed right at Gibson Custom as part of the manufacturing process, which means this potent piece of high-performance hardware interacts seamlessly with the design of the guitar. Partnered with an R4 locking nut, it also guarantees outstanding tuning stability and return-to-pitch accuracy.
496R and 498T Pickups
Beyond all these significant considerations for playing feel, the Axcess is also geared toward optimum tone, as you’d expect from any Gibson Custom creation. Exposed-coil 496R and 498T pickups in the neck and bridge positions — the ceramic 496R provides incredible sustain and definition with no muddiness and the 498T Alnico V is the perfect companion in the bridge position providing a high output with emphasis on mid-range and highs, while a push/pull switch on each volume knob provides coil splitting for each pickups for single coil tones.
These unique tonal combinations excel at delivering everything from singing classic rock lead tones to contemporary crunch to extremes of twang and jangle. Even the pure-nickel wound .10-.46 Gibson Vintage Strings it ships with contribute toward its rich, textured voice. Each instrument also comes with a Gibson Custom hardshell case and certificate of authenticity.

| Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? |
| all my les pauls have never failed. some issues with tuning on some, but not this one, keeps perfect tune, as it should, with locking trem. dependable, you bet. the only thing that could detract from it's dependability would be for me to damage it. (or someone else!)(and they better not, and i better not!) |

| will update next year at this time. have had the guitar for a while now and it's fine. |

| AMS you rock for making this possible!!
Overall, but only for the price, this would be a straight 100% approval rate. I still gave it a max review because putting a lower rating just because of price isn't really fair to the guitar. after all the guitar doesn't price itself!
The guitar arrived in PERFECT CONDITION. like i was standing at the end of the painting booth-after the laquer had dried, someone just handed it to me. The SMELL of the guitar is an intoxicant. like new car leather, it's THAT good! (probably toxic, but good anyway!) |

| Playability and Feel |
| How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? |
| plays fast, thinner neck, controls are a bit stiff but in a way that is good because the knobs won't lose the spot when knocked around by my pete townshend windmills. THe coil tap is stiffer too when pulled up. but all in all this isn't a concern. far better to be tight than loose. I think these are the vintage, nickel strings because my fingers got black as i played it. this seems to happen with the nickle wound strings. |
|
| Tone |
| Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? |
| sustains forever. also very resonant. the whole guitar comes together to vibrate in the perfect way, much like an acoustic. if it didn't do this, like my old thick, heavy, les pauls, i'd be concerned. remember, this ISN'T your traditional les paul. For those who have pauls, and those in need of something more contemporary, and a trem are, then, in my opinion, it's great, bright, fast and wonderful. wunderbar for the germans. |
|
| Finish |
| How did the stain or paint job look? |
| perfect in every way. I got the gun metal grey for something different. i have plenty of sunbursts with plenty of fine AA all the way to AAAAA tops. So, i was looking for something different. seems that the sunburst is never available anyway in this model. i'd recommend this one to anyone. it's really nice. hard to describe, but definitely will be a collector in the future. |

| Action |
| How was the action out of the box? |
| PERFECT! Just as promised, PLECKED, and perfectly LOW. I like it low. Maybe these ship with the strings flat. but i had to loosen the locking nut, bring to pitch with the head tuners, then lock the nut then fine tune the floyd rose. The action was great either way. the neck was perfectly in tune no matter which fret i played, anywhere on the neck. amazing. |
