Gibson’s L series acoustic guitars were there at the very birth of blues—played by the great blues originator Robert Johnson, among others—and this is the inspiration behind the Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster, which adds a host of upgraded appointments to the format to create an acoustic of optimum tone and performance for the contemporary player.

The Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster packs all the tonal nuance and sweetness you could hope for in a high-end, hand-crafted acoustic guitar, while vintage-spec touches such as its 12th-fret neck/body joint—which positions the bridge right in the body’s sweet spot for optimum resonance—put it on par with the best of Gibson’s acoustics from the late ’20s and early ’30s. Add to all this a choice of Antique Natural or Vintage Sunburst nitrocellulose finish (with double antiquing), cream top, back, and fingerboard binding, herringbone trim, mother of pearl inlays, and double-ring soundhole rosette, and the Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster looks as sweet as it sounds.

L.R. Baggs Element Pickup L.R. Baggs Element Pickup
The Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster carries a built-in L.R. Baggs Element pickup, with a single volume control mounted inconspicuously in the edge of the sound hole and a standard 1/4 inch end-pin jack. The Element is an advanced unit from one of the world’s leading acoustic-guitar pickup manufacturers, and it offers a broad, natural projection of the guitar’s natural tone, without interfering with the vibration of the top and bridge when the Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster is played unplugged.

Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Feels good not to heavy, fast to cord, the little wider neck makes playing fun and your fingers happy.Plugged in gives you all the sound you could ever want and the sound hole volume control is right there were you need it no looking like the whole guitar just feel for it it's there.
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
The Keb Mo's tone to me is just down home smooth blues sounding just what i was wanting when i bought it heck it's blues guitar and that's what i was paying for.If you play plugged you can go from bright and snappy to mellow and smooth.Just get the amp that suits you.
How did the stain or paint job look?
I got the sunburst and love it.
How was the action out of the box?
The action was great out of the box.I don't play lead guitar but i do use my fingers and use a capo up the neck and it played great right out of the box.
