Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar with CaseThe Gibson SG Standard is the modern version of this legendary instrument.
When introduced in the '60s, the SG, Gibson's new solidbody guitar, broke through traditional concepts of solidbody electrics and became an instant classic. The SG body style has remained in production since its first appearance in 1961.
Like the Les Paul, the SG Standard shattered all perceptions of what a guitar could be when it was introduced in 1961. Today, it stands as one of the most popular and best-selling of all Gibson guitars. Its distinct cutaways, pointed horns and beveled edges have made it one of the most inspired and iconic designs in the history of guitar-making. Not only is the SG one of the most eye-catching guitar designs, it is also one of the most functional and effective.
The streamlined body is a solid, lightweight piece of mahogany, with exceptional resonance to ensure superior tone and greater sustain. It's traditional 22-fret mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard and rounded profile has long been championed as the fastest guitar neck in the world, and with twin cutaways it offers easier access to the higher frets.
This incarnation of the SG features a mahogany body & neck, a rosewood fingerboard with big trapezoid inlays, Gibson Alnico humbuckers and chrome hardware.
A Gibson hardshell case is included.
490R Humbucker
This Modern Classic pickup features a tonal characteristic similar to the ’57 Classic, but delivers a slight increase in the upper mids, for a more contemporary humbucking sound. The special Alnico II magnet gives this beauty a singing quality that delivers on demand.
498T Hot Alnico Humbucker
Put a slightly hotter Alnico V magnet into a specially wound coil combination, and you get the 498T Hot Alnico. With its higher output and emphasis on mid-ranges and highs, the 498T is the perfect rock pickup.

| Everything's good on it. No complains about it other than checking if you got a volume cut somewhere in knobs that control the pickups. | | Sound:
| The bridge humbucker is kinda weak on the cleans, but on distortion it kills with a very vintage sharp sound. The neck humbucker gives excellent, complete, and huge sounding cleans. For distortions it sounds huge and fat. It's my favorite pickup! Using both at the same time, it gives a good sound, but I feel it lacks something sometimes. | | Reliability:
| I have mine since Feb 2006, now is 2009, and it doesn't have a dent on it. The bridge humbucker volume cutted somewhere volume 7 to 10; but a man fixed that problem for me. | | Overall:
| Tremendous guitar for any genre. I have it on Heritage Cherry since 2006, and every time I played or recorded with it, it has always giving me a knockout killer sound and attitude. | | Playability and Feel:
| The guitar is light, and I recommend it for all that have bad backs, broken ribs or any condition that limits you from playing a heavy instrument. The neck is a little wide, but it's a love if you like to bend a lot. As I said before, if you feel it strange...send it to a pro! | | Tone:
| The wood gives quite a dark sound compared to alder, but is a lot better since everything sounds huge, powerful and fat (still not like a Gibson Les Paul). The humbuckers work the same way I said on the sound section in this review. | | Finish:
| Absolutely amazing! I have it on Heritage Cherry and it is a work of art that I love to death! My guitar is kinda dark colored, compared to the one in the pics on the site, but I don't care because it rocks even more to my eyes, and the spectators eyes. | | Action:
| Weird. It has a wide neck, and kinda bigger frets space, than a strat. But you'll get it right fast. If you feel it high or strange, send it to a pro to adjust it for you. This is a NO SHRED guitar so you won't get your action very low, even so is a good guitar. No excuses if you're a true guitar player! | | Skill Level:

| A Very well made product, I will be able to count on it for a long, long time. | | Sound:
| The tone is great! similiar to a les paul but not as thick and bluesy, works great for the flat tunings that a les paul might not be as good at, being such a fat sound. | | Reliability:
| brand new but I'm sure it will last a life time | | Overall:
| Very well made instrument, typical of Gibson. | | Playability and Feel:
| Feels great, not as fast as a 60's neck Les Paul but pretty close. Nice and light. | | Tone:
| I'm so used to a Les Paul that the tone sounds pretty bright, but not as bright as a strat of course, it's kinda an in between guitar. | | Finish:
| The finish is great just as you would expect from a Gibson | | Action:
| the action was perfect didn't have to mess with it at all which is nice | | Skill Level:
