Your general opinion of this product.
It took me a lot to pull the trigger on this guitar to the tune of $3600. If you look around you will see quite a few reviews about Gibson's lack of quality control in general. I think I have now understood what I have been reading. In general, this guitar should be spectacular. This first one I got was not that at all. The good news is AMS was VERY responsive when I called. I had an RMA the day I called and they will replace this one. They are even going to ship my replacement the moment my return is tracked through UPS. Saves me time to actually get what I paid for.
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
The quality of this guitar was sub-par. But I believe the one I got was NOT new and un-touched one. The Gibson box it came in had been opened before. The guitar was shipped in its case and normally that all comes wrapped in a big plastic bag. The bag on this one was stuffed down in the bottom of the box. After waiting for the guitar to rest and adjust to my climate, I opend the case and found that the guitar was shipped tuned. Everywhere I can find says that this is not good for the guitar. There were big scratches on the plastic electronics cover on the back of the guitar. There was finish problems where the neck meets the body of the guitar. The guitar had finger prints all over it too. When I looked at the factory paperwork that came with the guitar I noticed that NONE of the preshipping check list was was filled out. This paperwork is where they document the set-up and playability of the guitar. That was all blank?!?! For a $3600 guitar?!?!?
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Unfortunately I could not tell much about the tone due to the constant buzzing.
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish was good except for where the neck meets the body. I got the black one and it had this discoloration on the top and bottom of the maple face where the neck is installed. It wasn't glue. Maybe the glue had a bad interaction with the nitro?
