G&L Tribute Series
G&L’s founder, Leo Fender, spent the last decade of his life lavishing all the knowledge and wisdom he had acquired over the years on the creation of his beloved G&L instruments. He considered the G&L guitars and basses the masterpieces of his lifetime of creativity. Leo worked in his private laboratory at the G&L factory in Fullerton, California, until the very last day of his life and he would not have wanted it any other way. While G&L’s unique and highly desirable instruments continue to be meticulously crafted in the historic Fender Avenue factory, they are not accessible to many musicians.

G&L Tribute Series sets a dramatic new standard in the popular price range by bringing unique G&L features and standardized CNC quality together in a surprisingly affordable line of guitars and basses. With genuine original equipment G&L pickups and bridges supplied by the Fender Avenue factory, Tribute Series instruments are equipped with unmistakable tone, sustain and playability that surpasses more expensive instruments.

With unbeatable value and performance in a high quality instrument, once you play a G&L Tribute Series, you’ll never look back.

Subject:Quality Control
Quality: Some of the details and quality control not up to par, fret buzz from improper truss rod adjustment, loose neck bolts, and hum from the electronics. I was able to fix all the above with a good set up that I do on any bass that I own but this should be checked by the factory. I realize that during shipping and storage etc. some neck adjustment may be required so no big deal but loose neck bolts should not be a problem this seemed to be a result of over tightening during assembly which require the screw holes to be repaired by gluing in wood shims then rethreading not a major job but a lot of people would have to either return the bass or pay a shop. As for the hum I removed the electronics cover checked the wiring and found a broken ground wire on the back of the treble pot re-soldered problem solved!! Note I own a couple of G&L american basses and they have been fine this is the Tribute series and after the minor work it's a fine bass too.
Features: Materials are quality, just the workmanship needs some improvement, it is one of only basses to be both active and passive and still maintain control of the tone controls in passive mode thanks to LEO's and George's Simple but thoughtful design.
Sound: G&L's can create just about any sound you want from muddy p sounds to mid honk off a jazz to slap of a Musicman all with an amp set flat so if you do multiple styles in a band this bass is really worth a look.
Playability and Feel: The bass is a medium weight, with a neck that falls between p and jazz a slight crown and medium thick c shape comfortable for long gigs.
Tone: If you can think up a tone you can most likely fine it you have active, passive, series or parallel wired pickups if I remember about 18 different configurations more then enough to get a soud that you might want
Finish: Very good job here clean and even
Action: Fret buzz the truss rod was not adjusted well had zero clearance at the 7th fret went the e string was pressed at the 1st and last fret, this is easily corrected so not a big deal I would always to a set up to a new bass!!!

"I really liked the live Chat feature. I also was very impressed with the Live product demostration video by Line 6 Variax Guitars on the Acoustic and Classical versions. This was very integral in making my decision, as was the live Chat." Nov '09
