The FC4 is a low cost, small capsule, true condenser microphone with transformerless discrete low noise class-A electronics.
The 20 mm, 3 um gold-sputtered diaphragm has a cardioid shaped polar pattern and a great sensitivity.

The characteristics of the FC4 are ideal for many recording and live situations. It will catch the crispness of your favorite guitar, every detail of your acoustic piano, the complexity of a clean electric guitar, the raw power of distorted amps, etc.

We have equipped the FC4 with high-pass filter and pad switches. This also makes it suitable for loud sounds and even vocal recording.

Every musican and studio have use for a couple of FC4´s. The small capsule cardioid condenser mic is one of the most basic mics for recording. The FC4 is truly a great sounding and very versatile microphone at a very low price!

The FC4ST is a matched (within 1 dB) stereo pair of two FC4 microphones.

Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
It seems okay. The roll-off and pad switches feel cheap. The padded plastic box it comes in doesn't come with enough foam padding to keep the mics from rolling around. (I used an old t-shirt to keep things in their place.) The shock mounts feel extremely cheap. I don't expect they will last the test of time. Overall, these look cheap and the case and the mounts are cheap. Thankfully, they don't sound cheap.
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
You can take your pick, the roll off and the pad are nice. Apparently some of these were originally sold in Europe with an omni and hyper-cardiod capsule. That would have been nice.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
It's a mic. If you know what you're doing, you'll be fine.
Sound
How is the tone?
The tone is great, especially considering the price. I would say these rank well with any of the under $1000 SDC pairs. If you know that you are not going to be spending 1k or more, I'd say buy these and save the rest for some decent pre's. The top end is slightly hyped like most chinese made mics, but not to the point of hurting the overall tone like many budget condensers. (Probably because these have been tweaked by the folks at Golden Age.) I much prefer these to some sterling audio mics that I once owned. These seem to compare well to the Rode NT5s, but with a slightly more defined mid range. I was most impressed by the low/low mid though. On acoustic guitar the low notes really came through without sounding boxy or muddy. When I engaged the rolloff this was cut down greatly, but sounded much more like mixed acoustic guitar. I'll be interested to see how these stand up when I get some tracks into the mix stage.
