Product Description

The incredible xtSA has the capability to meet all of your guitar demands! This powerful guitar has distinct voices of an acoustic, electric and a synth controller.

The xtSA guitar delivers big time electric sounds via the Godin humbucker-single-humbucker pickup configuration and thanks to a special 5-way switch setup extra meaty humbucker tones co-exist with glassy split-coil sounds in the second and forth position. Turn down the electric output and raise the volume on the RMC transducer saddles and the xtSA becomes an incredibly authentic-sounding acoustic guitar.

The acoustic voice of the xtSA is enhanced by an onboard preamp with a three-way graphic EQ. The two outputs are set up so that the electric and acoustic voices can be blended in the guitar using a single patch cord or at the amp/mixer using both outputs.

The icing on the xtSA cake comes in the form of its synth tracking, which simply put, is the best in the business. As with all of Godin synth-ready instruments, a built-in 13-pin connector provides direct access to all Roland GR Series synths as well as most other 13-pin devices.

All of this sound power would be a lot less interesting if the guitar didn't feel great and great is exactly how the xtSA feels thanks to the same 25 1/2 inch scale, mahogany neck used on the Godin flagship LGX-SA guitar. The ebony fingerboard is shaped with Godin's ergocut technique and equipped with medium jumbo frets.

Synth Access
The first prototypes were already nearing completion when Godin became intrigued by the possibilities presented by Roland's GR1 guitar synth system. Guitars had already been triggering synths for many years but they were either very expensive and not really guitars but guitar-like triggering devices or they just didn't work very well.

The GR1 made the guitar/synth connection available to guitar players of all budgets and abilities. However, using the GR still involved attaching a significant amount of hardware to your existing guitar. So Godin began experimenting with the idea of a guitar built from the ground up with synth tracking in mind.

Godin and their old friend Richard McLish of the RMC pickup company already had developed a hexaphonic pickup and preamp system called the RMC Polydrive and asked him to work on a version of his system customized for a new guitar, which is called the Multiac. Richard's system worked beautifully, however, Godin discovered that they could impact the tracking of the system with fundamental changes to the guitar itself. Bracing, scale length, string tension and wood selection all had some effect on the response time (tracking) of the synth. After about twelve prototypes Godin not only had achieved superb guitar synth tracking but done it in a nylon string guitar.

The xtSA features 3 output jacks:

  • Output 1 is a regular 1/4 inch electric guitar output
  • Output 2 is a 13-Pin output and is capable of carrying all three voices (electric, acoustic, synth). The 13-pin cable can be used in conjunction with GR Series guitar synths and most other 13- pin devices.
  • Output 3 is a dual function jack. Used on its own it serves as a mix output carrying the signal from the acoustic bridge transducers as well as the magnetic pickups. Separate volume controls on the guitar make it easy to mix the two signals.
