Beautiful bass, but sounds too bright
What is your overall opinion of this product?
I have been playing Guild Acoustic Bass Guitars for years and was excited to get my hands on their newest bass, which I had hoped to be an upgrade from my plain, but great sounding (out of production) B4CE. The new B54CE is a beautiful instrument with a beautiful flame maple back and sides gloss finish top and gloss finished headstock veneer. The bridge pins are advertised as bone, but look like cheap plastic to me. The amplified sound, however is too bright and clanky, even after changing the strings to nylon tapewound. The problem may be that the maple body and the Fishman matrix pickup system are not a good match. The matrix has a "bass boost" and presence/ midscoop control. The midscoop brings up treble along with the bass. You can't just roll off the treble. The bass boost helps a little, but not enough. This is in contrast to the 3 band EQ on my trusty B4CE. I resorted to using an outboard bass EQ box, which should be unnecessary with a bass in this price range.
