"You look like you're wearing a tuxedo." "What makes you think I'm not?"
What is your overall opinion of this product?
As a lady bassist with rather stubby fingers, I really appreciate the neck on this bass. I can reach every note, every time, no problem. I love how light it is - my shoulder never aches after playing - and the tone is rich and smooth. For the price, you can't beat this Hofner.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
I've personally only dabbled in punk, shoegaze, and blues, and this bass sounds amazing for all three. I generally play with a pick, and the sound rings nice and full.
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
On the bass itself, I am more than happy with the features, particularly the light weight and the shorter, thinner neck. I used to use a cheap Rogue, and I would take this Hofner over it any day. I loved the look of the Rogue, which is why I ordered the Hofner, and I am not disappointed. The case, however, is adequate, but poorly made. It came with a big scuff, one of the latches fell off, and the pull handle on the compartment on the inside ripped off the first time I tugged on it. It'll do, though, and since it came with the bass, I'm not dissatisfied.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
So light, so easy to tune, and it stays in tune surprisingly well. It feels like I'm holding a toy, but it sounds like a million dollars.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
Smooth, mellow, and rich. Perfect for rolling on the low end.
How did the stain or paint job look?
I LOVE the black and white color. I think that was my main deciding factor in purchasing this bass, and I can't stop looking at it. This Hofner really makes a statement.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
The price was a bargain compared to what stores were charging, and I could only find the black and white model online. I utilized the EZ Payment system, which I have to say, is the greatest system ever for buying band gear.
How was the action out of the box?
I recommend throwing a new set of strings on this bad boy, but other than that, it's been a dream.
