Product Description

With its finish and Flamed Maple top, back, and sides, the love of jazz history emanates from the Ibanez AF155 Artstar Hollow Body Electric Guitar. The bound Ebony fingerboard sports medium frets with edges that are noticeably smooth to a sliding hand, the product of a skilled crimping technique generally found on instruments costing twice as much.

The neck construction of the AF155 hollowbody is set-in, the bridge is made of rosewood, and at the headstock end is a bone nut. As for the pickup-no less than Ibanez's famous Super 58 Custom, known for its balanced tone character as well as its sonic fullness. Whether restrained to jazz-clean or cranked up to rockin' blues dirty, the Super 58 Custom gets the job done.

Ibanez Artstar Series
Ibanez calls their new Artstar models, "Hollow-bodies of the highest order." As the guitar builder for some of the brightest luminaries of modern jazz guitar, Ibanez has paved some middle ground between their upscale signature models and their popular Artcore series.

An incredible guitar!
General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
I got a late start in regards to playing the guitar. I called tech support to ask how to remove the foam insertion under the floating bridge but I guess they were too busy to call me back. I surfed the net and found the information I was looking for. I removed the foam insertion and put new strings on the guitar. I am very happy with the results.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
My opinion of the quality of the guitar is that it is very well made and as well as very beautiful. I only just got started playing the guitar and focused on the song Moondance by Van Morrison. The minor chords sound absolutely lovely. Overall a really great guitar.
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The neck was fine for me. My hand did not get tired and my fingers loved the neck and ebony fretboard. I have fairly medium to small hands but the neck felt great. The controls are easy to use with a three way switch that gives excellent tones.
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The tone is beautiful and lovely. I guess one could call the tone bright, snappy, dark, and smooth all in one as it seems that the tone changes of course with chord progression and lead.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The stain and paint job are great. I think that the coat of urethane will keep the guitar protected for a very long time. The guitar is a beauty!
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
I am impressed with this guitar. I suppose if I had to pick something that surprised me it would be the coating of urethane that covers the guitar as it is very glossy. I prefer a satin finish but I can live with this guitar. I truly believe that I got what was expected for my money. Its comparison to other products is unsurpassed as this guitar is very well made and quite a looker.
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
Like I said earlier I took out the foam under the floating bridge and put jazz light strings on. I did not try the guitar just out of the box as it was signed as inspected in or about July 2012. So...I went ahead and put new strings on. The action is very nice and I love the frets as they do not have jagged edges as some guitars do. Overall I give this guitar a 10 and if this one were to disappear I would get another.
