Ibanez AS103 Artcore Custom Electric Guitar is an excellent Semi Hollow Body guitar, Great to Play, Incredible to look at!
The Artcore AS103 is a semi acoustic electric guitar that features a gorgeous all flame maple body, two Ibanez Custom 58 humbucking pickups, and the new fine tuner equipped Quik Change Ultra tailpiece, which offers easier string changes.

Ibanez stunned the music industry when the first Artcores were unveiled and the appearance of the Artcore Customs in 2005 seems to have had the same effect. No one would have blinked an eye if Ibanez had placed a price tag of over two grand on these beautiful boxes. But the Artcore Customs are less than half that. Now with a semi-acoustic model for players who want more sustain and feedback resistance to play at higher volumes, Ibanez presents a fully comprehensive series. Artcore Custom received two nominations by music industry retailers for the 2006 Music and Sound Awards, Electric Guitar of the Year and Product of Year.

In summer 2002, Ibanez turned the music industry upside down with the Introduction of Artcore guitars. No longer were full and semi-acoustic guitars just big expensive jazz boxes for jazz players - even some of their competitors bought them (no, we're not making this up). With Artcore guitars you get an amazingly affordable price plus the quality and tone you expect from Ibanez, the guitar company with over four decades of experience making full and semi-acoustic guitars.

Ibanez Artcore Features
  • The great complex tones found only in true full-hollow guitars
  • Unlike many so-called full-hollow guitars in the more affordable price ranges
  • which feature soundblocks, Ibanez Artcore full-acoustic models are truly full-hollow
  • Deluxe Artcore models (86 series) offer 3pc necks for additional stability and strength and upgraded appointments such as abalone inlays
  • Medium output Artcore pickups produce clear tones and work well with effects
  • AFS models feature full-sized bodies, but with thinner depths, and Vintage Vibratos which make these models especially prized by country and rockabilly players

Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Incredible workmanship. Perfection.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Never had a problem.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Sounds great. Plays great. Looks great.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Exactly what I like. Fast feel. Chunky neck. Beefy sound.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Versatile. I turn the amp (tubes) all the way up and adjust on the guitar. Beautiful woody tone. No comparison to my other guitars.... My Fenders and Gibsons are gathering dust.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Perfect. Not a flaw anywhere on the instrument.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
I put 11 gauge strings on and re-intonated/adjusted. It's been super stable ever since.

Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish itself is great, but the pre-finish inspection was non-existent.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Was fine as far as factory specs go.
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
This was a problem. There was a ripple dent on the out side upper horn. There was a sanding error on the binding at the back of the upper inside horn. The fret board buzzed all down the neck due to uneven frets.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I don't gig but it is a solid built guitar. It should last a while.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
After fixing numerous problems. It is a Very nice Playing and Sounding Guitar.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
After fixing the frets and finger board and setting it up to my taste which is straight neck low action, it plays Excellent. Fast medium sized neck and it's not overly heavy. The pick guard is too high high for me. It gets in the way when your strumming. I took it off, but I'll modify to sit on the side of the pickup ring instead of on top.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
PU's are Vintage sounding similar to Gibson 57's or SD 59's. I have an AG100NT with the same 58's and they sound better in it than they do in the AS. Maybe the Hollow Body of the AG has an affect, they sound slightly Muffled in the AS like the tone knob is turned down a bit.
