Ibanez

With its Flamed Maple top, back, and sides, the Ibanez AS153 Artstar Semi Hollowbody Electric Guitar emanates great jazz, blues and rock tone and vibe. The bound Ebony fingerboard sports medium frets with edges that are noticeably smooth to a sliding hand, the product of a skilled crimping technique generally found on instruments costing twice as much. The AS153 Artstar features a set neck, rosewood fingerboard, and a bone nut for increased resonance and sustain.

Ibanez gives the AS153 guitar their famous Super 58 Custom pickups, known for their balanced tone character as well as sonic fullness. Whether restrained to ‘jazz-clean’ or cranked up to ‘rockin’ blues dirty,’ the Super 58 Custom gets the job done.

Ibanez calls their new Artstar models, ‘Hollow-bodies of the highest order.’ As the guitar builder for some of the brightest luminaries of modern jazz guitar, Ibanez has paved some middle ground between their upscale signature models and their popular Artcore series.

General
Your general opinion of this product.
The Ibanez AS153 was worth the wait, and has the potential to be excellent low cost alternative to some of the other more expensive semi hollow bodies on the market today. Overall, I am very happy with the guitar, after an initial setup by a local guitar luthier.
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
In today's competitive marketplace, I expect quality. This is where Ibanez may want to be a bit more attentive as they release their new guitars to the world. I'll start with the issues that I faced upon first playing the guitar: 1. Dead fret when bending the 1st string a whole note at the 12th fret 2. Truss rod cover screw only screwed in a quarter of the way 3. Both strap buttons were loose and needed to be tightened The pros are as follows: 1. Very playable 2. Great sound and sustain 3. Wood work and finish is gorgeous
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
After a few days visit with the local guitar luthier, I am very satisfied now with how the guitar plays and feels.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
This guitar has a very flexible tone pallet when playing it with or without amplification
Action
How was the action out of the box?
The action was fine
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Wood work and finish of the AS153 is beautiful
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Too early to tell
