| I've owned an Artwood forever |
| Quality |
| Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? |
| See above. It is made like a concrete bus, at least mine from 1996-7. |
|
| Reliability |
| How has it stood up over time? |
| The amount of beating I have put my Artwood through is nearly impossible to describe. I have dropped it out of an un-locked hard case onto concrete. I have banged into other musician's instruments, walls, ceilings, floors and tables. It has its nicks but although I want a Martin, I will not buy another acoustic (I also have other 12 strings) at the expense of this guitar. The wood grain on my front/top is next to impossible to duplicate in beauty, as well. |
|
| Overall |
| Your general opinion of this product. |
| My 1997 Artwood is one of about 15 guitars I own. I would not get rid of it if you paid me. Well, ok, if you paid a lot. At least $500. I changed the action to electric-like low action and it maintains it's cool. |
|
| Playability and Feel |
| How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? |
| I blaze fast on this neck when I want to, and I love blues, jazz, anything on it. It's just like butter in my hands. |
|
| Tone |
| Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? |
| Tone is smooth jazz when I either pull back on the treble, or on acoustic playing, use the appropriate pick angles and palm mutes and harmonics. I love that about this guitar. Effortless harmonics. |
|
| Finish |
| How did the stain or paint job look? |
| Excellent laquer over natural wood grain. No paint. I love, love, love what was done at the Ibanez Korean complex when this guitar was constructed. |
|
| Action |
| How was the action out of the box? |
| My action is set up at 3/64 of an inch at the 12th fret. I challenge you to find a strat that holds up to major strum action without fret buzz at that level. And when the temp. changes, I make adjustments without problems. Again, this is about 15 years old. |
