Product Description

The Ibanez LGB30 George Benson Hollow Body Guitar is an exciting instrument designed in collaboration with the one and only George Benson and Ibanez! As the first Signature Model of the Ibanez Artstar Series, the LGB30 is a more affordable version of the LGB300. With a spruce top with Flamed Maple back and sides, and 3-piece Mahogany/ Maple set neck the Ibanez LGB30 hollowbody is both gorgeous and incredibly toneful.

Two Ibanez Super 58 Custom pickups really let the LGB30 George Benson signature guitar shine. The Artstar Fret Edge Treatment (for a fast, smooth feel), Ebony fingerboard, Bone nut, LGB300 custom tailpiece and gold hardware round out the features on this incredible instrument from Ibanez.

General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
When I received my new LGB-30, I was very excited but quickly became disappointed. I realize it is the "entry level" model to the George Benson line, but I expected a little more for a $1000. I was very hesitant about purchasing a guitar made in China because I have not heard favorable things, but I did succumb to the Ibanez reputation.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Overall quality seems to be decent. I have only owned the guitar for a week, so I really cannot comment at this time.
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Once the proper adjustments were made, the guitar plays beautifully.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The most impressive thing about this guitar, is the finish. Looks to be very high quality.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
I think the value of this guitar is fair, not great. The ebony fretboard and bone nut are things you do not often see on guitars at this price point.
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
The action out of the box was not to my liking. After playing it for a few minutes, I noticed considerable fret buzz at the 7th fret and it fretted out at the 15th fret. Further investigation led me to find that 3 frets were not seated properly and were loose. As with any production guitar, I expected to do a set up, maybe crown the frets. On this particular guitar, I spent an additional $200 to re-seat all the frets before any crowning could be done. Also, the slope at neck joint needed correcting. I believe the strings that come on the guitar are D'Addario 10's Flat wound. After $200 of corrections and a set of Thomastik-Infeld 12's, the guitar is playing beautifully.
