Product Description

The Ibanez RG3550MZ Prestige Electric Guitar features the powerful combination of a 5 piece maple/walnut Super Wizard Prestige neck with a bound maple fretboard and dot inlays, Edge Zero tremolo bridge with ZPS3 spring system and 3 pickups. Case is included.

Edge-Zero Tremolo
The Edge-Zero, Ibanez's latest generation of knife edge tremolos, deploys all of the unique features of the ZR trem and allows for the most radical of trem effects with flawless tuning accuracy. Just unscrew the built-in intonation adjustment tool from the base of the tremolo and screw it into the bottom of each saddle for quick adjustments. The locking bolt is offset from the center of the saddle, which allows easy access to the bolt without loosening the strings.

The RG3550MZ features a DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck position, DiMarzio True Velvet in the middle and DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge.

DiMarzio Air Norton Neck Pickup
The tone is deep and warm, but not muddy. It's hot, but not distorted. It's even got cool harmonics, which are really unusual for a neck humbucker.

DiMarzio True Velvet Middle Pickup
A vintage-style single-coil pickup that's clean and bright, but designed to still sound sweet when picking above the 12th fret. Coil is tuned to a frequency range that’s bright but not thin.

DiMarzio Tone Zone Bridge Pickup
Hot enough to qualify as a high-output pickup, but has a wider dynamic range--hard picking will produce a lot of power, and softer picking will be much cleaner and quieter.

What is your overall opinion of this product?
I own several Ibanez RG's and an S series, recently bought an RG Premium. Then the mother of all purchases, my RG3550MZ Prestige, galaxy black. This baby is the epitome of guitars, as is Ibanez of makers. Right out of the box it was amazing. What a huge difference from a 300-500 dollar RG to a 1700 dollar Prestige. You have to feel the difference for yourself, yes it's a lot of money, but you wont buy another guitar ever, not because your broke, lol, but because you wont need one or want one, unless you just buy them to collect them, then go for it. But the quality is amazing, the Japanese craftsmanship is second to none. I give it an 11 out of 10. The Dimarzio's are so beautifully warm and powerful, the neck pickup is the best Ive ever heard, go for a swim Fender, Ibanez is the lifeguard on the guitar beach!!!
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
From what I have heard from my amp, which is a LINE6 SPIDERVALVE 212 BOGNER edition, this guitar will play anything, any song, any sound, from Classical cleans to Dreamy Thrashing Distortion, it is truly amazing
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Very sleek, the neck is by far the best Ive put my fingers on. light weight and comfortable
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
Tone was dreamy on all 3 pickups. I was very impressed with the middle one, the bridge pickup was nice and hot but crisp and clear, the neck pickup is my favorite, not muddy but warm and smooth and you get nice pick harmonics, rare. Ibanez should make Dimarsio stock in all the RG's plain and simple
How did the stain or paint job look?
Impeccable. Not 1 single flaw that I can see, and believe me Ive looked. The Galaxy Black finish looks just like a clear nights sky full of stars, it is sooooooo beautiful
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Maybe a bit pricy but I am not complaining at all. Well worth it and I have no plans to get rid of it ever so the value in what I got was well worth it and I have no regrets in paying what I did
How was the action out of the box?
The action was perfect as far as I could tell, it was tuned to E flat, which I guess is a standard for all Prestiges, dont know why and it doesnt matter to me, most of the songs I want to learn are a half step down anyway so its just fine. Although I did tune it up to A 440 just,, well I dont really know why but I just did, and had no problems when I did. The action was still perfect and the bridge still floated nice and stayed centered, Thanks Ibanez and American Music Supply for making my dreams come true!
