Product Description

Combining form and function, the Iron Label SIR70FD guitar by Ibanez is an exciting new made-for-metal instrument. Cloaked in an Iron Pewter finish and sleek bound rosewood fretboard makes for a dramatic silhouette. Lurking beneath the graceful 3-D shape is mahogany specifically chosen for the Iron Label Series of electric guitars.

The SIR70FD Iron Label is light enough in terms of comfort, heavy enough to provide the tone and sustain that Ibanez is known for. As the originators of the thin, fast neck, the Nitro Wizard neck is yet another achievement in playability, providing the kind of comfort that translates to responsiveness and speed. The best-of-all-worlds DiMarzio pickup configuration provides an impressive palette of distorted tone textures.

General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
This guitar is basically a no-nonsense Ibanez. Instead of spending a lot of money on a fancy veneer, sexy paint job, and abalone veneers, they upgraded the pickups to Dimarzios.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
It's very well made. It's designed to play metal and it does this very well.
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Incredibly light, very thin neck but not as thin as the original Wizard necks. The feel is amazing and it's exactly what you'd want for an Ibanez S body.
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The first 4 tone positions are perfect for me and they're very versatile, from a full neck tone, to the sort of thin snappy tone of the middle single coil. The bridge pickup by itself in the fifth position was a little too dark sounding for me, but this is a common thing for the Dimarzio Tone Zone. I went ahead and did the half-air mod to it and I couldn't be happier; it cut the bass a bit and now I get a wall of sound that can be used for both lead and rhythm.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
This was my only minor complaint. The routing for the pickups was a little less than perfect. The binding is also a little less than straight in some parts on the body. One thing to note is that online pictures of this guitar don't really show the finish very well; it's a black finish with little sparkles in it.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
I was very happy with the price of this guitar. I wanted a guitar than sounds amazing without all the bells and whistles that other guitars in this price range have.
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
The truss rod needed a little adjusting and the bridge pickup was a little too high, but everything else was fine.
