Product Description

Playing comfort and responsiveness, the Ibanez SIX70FD is a made-for-metal guitar. The SIX70FD is a great additon to the Iron Label Line displaying both form and function.

The SIX70FDBG steps out on its own with a fiery burled Bubinga top/ Mahogany body, matched abalone body and headstock binding, and gold plated hardware. From there on out it’s as heavy as it gets with DiMarzio Air Norton/ True Velvet/ The Tone Zone pickups driving the growl, and a special 3-piece Nitro Wizard Neck that guarantees stability, playing comfort, and responsiveness rarely found in other guitars.

Like other Ibanez S models, this SIX70FDBG offering follows form with a comfortable body-hugging design, slim fast-playing neck, great articulation and quick response of Ebony fingerboard, and tonally matched pickups that invigorate and inspire. Where the SIX70FDBG deviates from its Iron Label stable mates, is that it marries stripped down precision with the allure of sexy luxury appointments.

Amazing Guitar for the Money
What is your overall opinion of this product?
Excellent fit and finish, the Iron label line seems comparable to the premium line in that respect. Beautiful finish and mahogany top. Minor issues at worst in quality of parts. Could not ask for a better tool for under 1000 dollars.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Excellent build quality. It's hard to emphasize just how light this guitar is. It's incredibly comfortable to play sitting or standing. The action was great out of the box, as I would expect from Ibanez. The real seller for me was the string through Gibraltar bridge instead of a floyd rose system. Tuning stability is perfect, and though the tuners do not lock, I have had little issue with the guitar going out of tune. I would be comfortable using this guitar at a show without a backup. It's obviously geared toward metal, and this is very evident in it's tone. Treble is almost overwhelming on the bridge PU, and all settings require a bit of amp tweaking to get the clean sound right. Very versatile despite this, cuts through well all leads, and the 5 way switch makes it easy to get quality tones for most any genre, though warmth is wanting on many settings. No crackling from pots. Pickup volumes are reasonably well leveled.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Wizard III is fast as always, a bit thicker in places that my s5470 which I like. Ibanez quality is evident here, as it feels smooth as butter everywhere. Cutaway is nice and deep, all 24 frets easily accessible. SUPER LIGHT!! Very odd at first but I love it now. The action is low, but it's an S series Ibanez, so it better be.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
Moderately hot pickups on this one, though they are absolutely the weak point of this guitar in my mind. Singular focus (metal) is not a bad thing, but even metal players want so smooth, warm tones. Those are often hard to find on this guitar. It does metal VERY well, and harmonics are easy to produce and sustain. Speaking of which, despite its bolt on neck it sustains quite well. The string through bridge helps with this I'm sure. Not having a tremolo is an absolute godsend. kids running around with their slammy sticks making the dive bombs. Who needs em. Also, intonation was set perfectly from factory, which is awesome.
How did the stain or paint job look?
Finish is awesome. Mahogany looks amazing on the top and headstock, ebony fingerboard is great, despite one small and visible burl on the 11th fret. Its sanded down well and does not interfere with bends, but is visible. Some of the black trim on the headstock is too thin is areas, but is not easily visible anyway. No dings or dents from shipping, which is totally rad, Thanks AMS!
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Great value. Maybe one of the best out there right now. Looks are great, playability is perfect, tonal range is acceptable(though a pickup swap is a necessity for non distorted functionality).
How was the action out of the box?
Perfect, beautiful, fast, sharp. Fretwork is surprisingly good for a sub 1000 guitar. Action is low, but no buzz. Intonation perfect.
