Ibanez SR500 Electric Bass Guitar

The Ibanez SR500 Electric Bass Guitar brings an unheard of tone to this price range.
Since 1987, bassists who want the power and versatility of active electronics and the speed of the fastest neck available have made Soundgear standard equipment in every genre. As music evolves, so does the Soundgear concept. The SR500 family is one example of this evolution. The 4-string version is a huge upgrade in playability and tone. The SR500 models feature a fast SR4 neck, a mahogany body, and Bartolini MK1 pickups. Onboard Bartolini 3-band EQ provides precise tone control.

SR Series Features

  • Thinner necks with thinner nuts than traditional basses.
  • Sleek bodies that are lightweight, balanced and comfort contoured.
  • Active EQ's perfectly matched with the passive pickups.

Sleek, sexy and sonically versatile are the reasons Soundgears can be found in every kind of music from gospel to goth to garage rock. Bassists who want the power and versatility of active electronics and fastest neck available have made the Soundgear standard equipment in the most controlled studio environments and the most out-of-control live performances.

Ibanez MB100C Style Case

The light weight, the small/fast neck, and the Bartolini pickups.

I prefer the sound of the SR series bass with the Bartolini pickups.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Bass is very light... easy to hold for hours. The SR4 neck is very small and very fast. Controls are easy to reach and function very well.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Hot pickups... EQ is available to get what many desire.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The appearance is good; however, I would prefer a glossy finish.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
I enjoy very low action; so, a bit of tweeking is required.
