While the name and purpose of the new pedal is the same as the original ‘90s models, this version of Tube King, the TK999HT, differs from its two predecessors in that it features internal high voltage DC circuitry instead of previous starved plate low voltage circuitry. Ibanez says that makes a significant difference. I would expect to pay $3-400 for a boutique pedal that is made this well. Sound: Real tube, high voltage, dist, variable to any level of gain and tone. Special noise reduction "void" knob tightens up the low end for metal chuggers if needed. For $150, excuse me, I will be getting the white OD asap. This is pure hot tube, like an amp preamp, it's as good as it gets, no mimic modeler or FETs trying to act like tubes. And for you not so up on the issues of power supplies and mA current issues. YOU MUST USE THE SUPPLIED WART as this is a 400mA high current pedal which steps up the voltage inside. Reliability: I hate to use the expression built like a tank, it would probably endure a bomb blast. Overall: Just got this, I was just amazed how heavy, large and well built this pedal is compared to the pictures. Very solid, very heavy, everything seems like a toy compared to it. AMS, hello guys, stock up on these two Ibanez tube monsters! Playability and Feel: Distortion of all types and gain voice, just tweak away. I really like it and I am hard to please w distortions. Tone: If you do not like this box, seriously, I cannot imagine what would float your boat. Finish: Seems like I keep getting red boxes for some reason, I now have 4. It looks better than the pictures. Box is super heavy duty and the front switch has a slight tilt which is not evident in the pics. Again I was rather amazed at the quality for $150. Ibanez has a new fan, I will serously have to look at their gear from now on. Action: na I hear a lot of guys saying toss the tube and change it. Having used and a collection of all 12AX7 type tubes including JAN 5751s. The EH 12AX7 included is a good quality tube, rated very well. It's a gainer, changing to Tung Sol is really no difference and others will lower the fizz high end of the distortion. I doubt if I will change it, we'll see, I use 5751s in my amp but this is a ripper box. Quality: As stated before, I expect a long lasting relationship with this pedal and since i am married to a beautiful lady; I could care less if it attracts all the attention. Sound: I rated this a 5 although it sounds good because of what i did to it. I knew that I would have to change the tube to get better sound. I did not know that I was going to need a PHD to get everything out of the way so I could get to the darn tube. Once I put a Mesa tube in it, what a difference. WARNING. The old tube must go immediately in the garbage especially if you have kids or grandkids like I do, or in a display case to show someone what a Vacuum Tube looks like; otherwise it is useless. Reliability: I just bought it but my experience with Ibanez tells me that I will be very happy for a long time. Overall: I did a lot of research before purchasing this pedal. $150 dollars is not a lot of money but I wanted to make sure that this was going to be an adition to my pedalboard that i would be happy about. This product delivers. Playability and Feel: I can't rate playability of the pedal but my SG, Les Paul and AM Strat sound amaizing while going through it. Tone: After the surgery to upgrade the tube AMAZING!!! Finish: This is a pedal that will make a "show off" guitarist mad. When the audience sees the beautiful color of this pedal with a little "light" glowing (LOL), they will forget that you are playing and focus their attention on the pedal. Blame Ibanez for putting way too much effort on the looks of the pedal and for you going home alone AGAIN. If you want a date, leave the pedal at home.
