Reminds me of my 1975 Polytone 103
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
(for this price range) the build quality seems quite good. I had to really look hard to find even a tiny imperfection.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I haven't had it long enough to comments but it "looks" quite sturdy and a little to heavy (for my tastes) but I bought it for the great reviews on the tone.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Other than the 1975 Polytone 103 I bought new, I am comparing this to my recent Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight. Although they each sound a little different and have their own character, this is a very nice amp and is MUCH cheaper than the Ultralight but also noticeably heavier.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
You can find your tone pretty quick with the 3 control EQ and then make mild tweaks with the additional separate "tone" control. I have all tone related controls near 12 o'clock. Some people don't like that there are no numbers ( 1 to 10) on the controls but it hasn't bothered me and the early Polytone's only had 1-3-5-etc. As someone explained in one of the forums, this seems to be "flat" at 12 o'clock and then you can boost or cut as needed.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
I just picked up a Loar LH650 NA, which has a Kent/Armstrong floating jazz pickup fastened to the neck. I got this amp specifically to use with this guitar and they are great as a set. I (for the 1st time) actually can get to much bass and "mellow" in my tone and not have to have those control frequencies max'd to get the mellow Kenny Burrell type sound..
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
after pouring over the exterior, I could only find one tiny (the size of a pencil point) flaw in the tolex. At this price point that is actually pretty good in todays world.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
well packaged and came out of the box looking good without any massaging...
