Kala needs to up it's quality control
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Quality issues with Kala. First one had a busted knob. Actually, the post on the pot was defective and the knob wouldn't stay on. Had to send it back. 2nd had the strings about an inch off the neck. 3rd, which I kept, has some sort of grounding issue. Hums unless I'm touching something metal on it. The other 2 didn't. I'm going to fix it myself when I get a chance.
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
Bass treble and volume is all you need.
Sound
How is its Tone?
Can sound very double bass like. Can also sound like an electric if ya roll off the bass. Can even get modern sounding with the treble dimed. Haven't brought it into a band setting yet, but it records excellently, and gets excellent gig reviews from others.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Really fun to play. Takes a little getting used to. Obviously not a slapping bass, but it can be done w practice. Can play things not possible on a standard electric, can not play some things possible on a standard elsectric. Playing gets tough after the 10th fret...
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Pretty versatile for it's size. Puts out a very surprising amound of bottom and sound.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Finish looks perfect. I like the look and feel of satin finishes.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Had to send 2 back. 1st the action was great, 2nd I sent back because the action was ridiculously high with the bridge flat on the body. 3rd, action was ok, but I shimmed the neck and the action is now awesome.
