Product Description

The Kala U-BASS is truly a ground breaking short scale bass that produces the same pitches as a standard bass instrument and is tuned in traditional bass tuning, E-A-D-G. The U-BASS is strung with proprietary strings that incorporate a great bass feel with balanced tension. The U-BASS is a true pleasure to play, and the tone that these instruments produce is amazing.

General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
Great idea, not enough presence to play in a combo w/o amp.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Low "E" has weaker signal when plugged in
Features
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
Size is right, wood looks and feels good, strings feel smooth
Feel
Are the controls logically laid out?
Yes, the compartment door in back is held in with magnets and feels as though it could fall off easily, then get lost.
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth?
Sounds like an upright bass when you close your eyes and listen. Small frets give the sound a fretless timbre, pleasing everyone who heard the bass.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
fit and finish look good
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Fair price for what you get, just can't use it with the weak signal coming off the low "E" string.
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
Tuned the bass up with the onboard tuner and the action was surprisingly great, learning curve because of the shorter scale, easy to become accustomed to it eventually.
