Korg Zero 8 FireWire Audio Mixer and Remote Control
Korg Zero 8 Firewire Mixer and Remote Control
ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER is an all-in-one core station designed for live performance artists, remix producers, and serious computer musicians providing a digital mixer, audio I/O, MIDI controller, and effect processor all in a single unit. Each channel can be switched between sources such as a turntable, CD player, microphone, computer, instrument, MIDI controller, or MIDI controller + audio to implement a sophisticated live mixing setup with the simplicity of a FireWire connection. This gives you an incredibly powerful and flexible tool designed specifically for live performance and remix production.
Mixing, control, and effects are becoming part of the performance more than ever, and all are at the core of this new instrument. Live performance is where the dynamism of music can be created and enjoyed in its clearest form.
Main features:
Digital mixer, digital I/O, MIDI controller, and effect processor --- all in one unit that becomes
the relay center and the core of your system.
An EQ selector is provided on each channel, letting you select EQ responses and curves optimized for a variety of musical styles, or use powerful filter or isolator effects separately for each channel on ZERO8. The EQ selector on the ZERO4 works for whole channels globally.
The FireWire connection lets you process or mix audio sources from your PC in the digital domain.
Designed for ultra-high audio quality, with support for up to 24-bit 192 kHz digital audio.
Eight types of insert effect that can be used independently for each channel on the ZERO4. In addition, there's a master effect and a BPM-based loop sampler (one-shot mode also provided).
Next-generation KAOSS effects on the ZERO8. The touch-display with X-Y pad lets you control a variety of effect programs while watching the graphical screen. This is also a great way to make MIDI settings.
Use the dedicated ZERO Edit software to freely assign the faders, knobs, incremental/push encoders, buttons, toggle switches, and X-Y pads as MIDI controllers.
The channel faders which function as MIDI sliders in MIDI controller mode are designed as a removable unit, and can be exchanged for control units (available in the near future) that match the software synthesizer or DAW program you're using, letting you make hardware-level customizations to meet your needs.
In FireWire audio + MIDI mode, a single channel can be used for audio processing such as EQ and level at the same time you're using it for MIDI control.
Higher quality phono amplifier allows you to connect turntables directly for mixing, signal processing, and transfer sounds to PCs via FireWire without any sound inferiority.
The Matrix Input Selector lets you instantly switch each channel between a variety of audio source such as records, CD, mic, FireWire audio, MIDI controller, MIDI controller + audio, or guitar.
Durable, compact design that emphasizes mobility. The universal power supply (90V--260V) will operate no matter what country you're in. The internal power supply is ±18V for high quality audio.
The periphery of the controller knobs features two-color illumination according to function, allowing precise control even on stage or in dim lighting.
The core station that gathers a digital mixer, audio I/O, MIDI controller, and effect processor into a single unit ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER is an all-in-one core station designed for professional live performance artists, giving you a digital mixer, audio I/O, MIDI controller, and effect processor all in a single unit. Within this single unit, each channel can be switched between sources such as a record, CD, mic, FireWire audio, MIDI controller, or MIDI controller + audio, letting you connect turn tables, CD players, notebook computers and software, or digital/analog instruments to implement a sophisticated live mixing setup with the simplicity of a FireWire connection, giving you an incredibly powerful and flexible tool that's designed specifically for live performance.
Designed for high-quality audio in both digital and analog audio, with support for up to 24-bit 192 kHz digital audio
ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER delivers truly professional-spec audio. It supports 24-bit 48 kHz high-resolution audio as standard, and can support up to 24-bit 192 kHz ultra-high sound that's equivalent to DVD audio. Not only the digital domain, but also analog components such the input/output circuitry and power supply have been designed with painstaking attention to high-quality sound. In particular, the power supply is a universal design that does not require an AC adapter, ensuring that the world-traveling professional who encounters a variety of line voltages can get to work immediately, assured of the highest level of performance. Internally, the ±18 volt power supply design contributes to plenty of headroom and excellent audio quality. In addition, the mic preamps which have a decisive impact on the audio quality are ultra-low impedance mic preamps designed by Peter Watts, a veteran designer of numerous professional mixers throughout his tenure at the Trident Corporation in the UK and as chief designer and vice president for product development at Mackie Designs in the USA.

EQ Selector
In a first for mixers, EQ Selector is a completely new idea, providing an EQ section that single-handedly covers needs ranging from corrective equalization to boldly creative sound-shaping, giving you a variety of EQ responses and curves, filter characteristics, and even isolator modeling that can be switched independently for each channel as needed. Eleven different simulation types are provided. The stereo four-channel ZERO4 provides one of these units that is shared by all channels, and the stereo eight-channel ZERO8 provides an amazing eight units (independent for each channel).
FireWire connector lets you control audio and MIDI data simultaneously
ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER contains a FireWire audio interface that lets you process and mix audio sources that are input via FireWire, at the same time as performing MIDI control. Since ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER itself also contains everything else you need (such as an audio interface, mixer, effect processor, MIDI controller), setup is simple, making this an extremely convenient choice for the mobile professional.
The full complement of effects you expect from an audio/MIDI workstation
One particular advantage of the ZERO series --- designed to fill your live mixing needs in a single unit --- is its powerful effect system. On the stereo four-channel ZERO4, there are insert effects for independent use on each channel, plus a master effect connected to sampler/effect buss. On the stereo eight-channel ZERO8, there's one insert effect, one send effect, and one master effect. For the insert effects you can choose from eight effect types, and for the send/master effects you can choose from eleven effect types, meeting the demands of any live mix. The ZERO4 also contains a loop sampler that can synchronize to the BPM. This makes it easy to sample or play back loops (or one-shot samples) in synchronization with the BPM, giving you the flexibility for complex mixes or dub mixing.
Next-generation KAOSS effects (ZERO8 only)
The stereo eight-channel ZERO8 additionally allows its touch display be used as an effect processor like the KAOSS PAD. You can control a variety of effects while watching the graphics shown on the display, giving you an entirely new sense of control. This touch display can also be used to control MIDI and other settings simply by touching them in the display, making it very easy to edit the settings.
Both software and hardware are customizable. Dedicated software and modular fader section
By using the dedicated ZERO Edit software you can freely assign MIDI messages to the faders, knobs, push-type encoders, buttons, toggle switches, and X-Y pad. In addition, the fader section is designed as modules of two-channel units that can be swapped for other controllers, letting you customize both the software and hardware of your system to meet your needs.
Professional-level hardware design
The crossfader of the stereo four-channel ZERO4 uses a two-rail design for excellent durability. The compact chassis is made of aluminum alloy and steel for portability and durability. The periphery of the control knobs is illuminated in two colors for audio mode and MIDI mode, ensuring accurate control on stage or in dim lighting.
