Is there anything more fun than a low-wattage all-tube amp head that provides authentic, cranked up tube tone at modest volume levels?
The Kustom Defender 5 watt Model 5H guitar head has one knob! (Volume) But the fun lies in hearing what this knob does as you slowly turn it up. Starting in the counterclockwise position, you’ll move through clean and clear tube tones to progressively dirtier sounds until this little sucker is just plain screaming!
Kustom Defender 5H Guitar Amp Head Features:
- One 12AX7 preamp tube
- One EL84 power tube
- Three speaker outputs (4, 8, and 16-ohm)
The clean-to-mean response isn’t due to any overdrive or distortion circuit, it’s just the sound of the single EL84 power tube moving naturally into increased output distortion. And it’s great for cranking up and controlling the action right from your guitar’s volume control – no channel switching required!

| cheap tube amp |
| Quality |
| Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? |
| switches/pots feel good, can only imagine what cheap tubes are innit, haven't got there yet, I'm thinking a GT mullard 12ax7 pre and a jj el84 @ 8 or higher will greatly help this little thing by getting the overdrive tones way less farty |

|
| Reliability |
| How has it stood up over time? |
| I've only had time to play it for an hour but I cranked it and it held together fine |
|
| Overall |
| Your general opinion of this product. |
| glassy cleans, farty overdrives |
|
| Playability and Feel |
| How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? |
| cranked it's farty, but better tubes may bring that along, it does have good touch response, it's dynamic also, responds to volume knob/varied pick attacks well and yes it does feedback nicely at volume. |
|
| Tone |
| Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? |
| I got this because I didn't own a tube amp sans EQ, I would never think of using it as my main amp but given the low price I'll retube and leave in my studio for some player that wants to record on an amp with no eq...for my ear going to put an eq stompbox ahead of it and noodle when I get time. Heck, amp costs less than most fx pedals, Kewl |
|
| Finish |
| How did the stain or paint job look? |
| paint is just fine, chassis is so tiny it's cute |
|
| Action |
| How was the action out of the box? |
| n/a, it's an amp, good touch response tho |
