Lanikai 08E 8 String Acoustic Electric Tenor Ukulele

Sometimes one needs to break traditions to create a masterpiece. West Africa is about as far as one can get from the islands of Hawaii, but no other wood had the characteristics needed to spotlight the nuances of doubled strings. Coupled with a solid spruce top the Ovangkol O8E by Lanikai has an incredible full tone. When the song calls for a different voice Lanikai delivers a new array of sounds with this 8 string ukulele. This model comes with the standard tuning of GCEA with the C and A strings doubled like a 12 string guitar. The O8E acoustic/electric ukulele comes with a Shadow preamp for gigging situations. With the easy playability, and included instruction booklet written by Mary Lou Dempler you will be playing in a matter of minutes. If you have never played ukulele before get ready for a world of fun. The ukulele is an addicting instrument that can and will be taken everywhere. The standard tuning on a Soprano, Concert, and Tenor ukulele is GBEA, and on a Baritone DGBE. If you can play one ukulele you can play them all!

Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
I believe it is made well, but the tuners have have easy spots and hard spots during rotation, kind of gives it a cheap feeling. It feels really fragile, I don't know if it is, I've only had it for a short while
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Can't say, I've only had it for less than a month.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Very cool ukulele
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Playability is cool, if you can play a uke, you can play this
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Tone is good out of the box, but I suggest putting on some aquillas right away, they take this uke to a new level.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish looks great, very shiny
Action
How was the action out of the box?
The action was great out of the box

This is a quality item. I plan on purchasing the 6 sting as well. I am very happy with this uke.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
The first 2 weeks are tough as your stings are still stretching...hence the go out of tune quickly. after the second week...the uke stayed in tune very well. It is worth the wait.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
This is my 5th ukulele...and my 2nd lanakai. I am very pleased with the overal package. The quality and workmanship is top notch. You definitely need a tuner to tune this uke...but it is wya worth it.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
This uke is very light...but very solid. It's like anything else that is new in your life...it takes a couple days to get used to it. In the end...one of my best musical purchases.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
This uke has it all. Depending on how you play...it can be bright and sanppy...or dark and smooth depending on your strum. You will not regret this purchase.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish is very nice...it has the presence of a more expensive uke.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Right out of the box...it just needed to be tuned. I was surprised how easy it was to play coming from someone who has never played anything but a 4 string. Just wow!
