Line 6

25 guitars, 11 tunings, 1 exceptional instrument
60 years ago, modern music was transformed by the advent of the electric guitar. This revolutionary new instrument proved to be incredibly expressive, and allowed players to connect to their music and their audiences in powerful ways. As music evolved, traditional electric guitars clung to the past - but others provided broader palates of sounds. The JTV89 Variax guitar includes Gig bag, 1 Lithium Ion Battery, Charger, Bridge Saddle Wrench and Truss Rod Wrench.

v1.8 Line 6 Variax Guitar Update
Now available from Line 6 is a free v1.8 update which gives all James Tyler Variax guitars five next-generation acoustic guitar models based on celebrated 6 and 12-string acoustics from Martin, Guild and Gibson. The v1.8 update also enhances functionality for those who use a JTV guitar with a POD HD500 or POD HD Pro. Find out more about the v1.8 Line 6 Variax update.

In 2002, Line 6 launched Variax modeling guitars. These groundbreaking instruments offered guitarists an unprecedented range of tones based on the most desirable electric and acoustic guitars on the planet. To develop the latest evolution of Variax guitars, Line 6 partnered with legendary luthier James Tyler to craft an exceptional instrument and the perfect delivery system for Variax technology.

Award-winning Variax guitar modeling technology
Line 6 set the goal posts for digital guitar modeling, and the latest evolution of this technology gives the James Tyler Variax JTV 89 unprecedented tone-crafting potential.

At a twist of its Model knob, JTV 89 transforms its tone with 25 award-winning electric and acoustic guitar models, giving you a virtual guitar collection to rival the gear rack of any top studio. Tap a vintage dreadnought acoustic for the intro, a humbucker-loaded crunch machine for the verses, and a sweet vintage singlecut neck tone for your solo, all in the space of a single song, and without missing a beat.

At a twist of its Tuning knob, JTV 89 can achieve the sludgiest de-tunings without sacrificing string tension or playability. In a split second you're playing in Standard E-flat, Drop D, Drop C, or any other tuning you want, up or down.

Each guitar model offers nuance-perfect tone inspired by the most desired vintage acoustic and electric guitars, and it does so with more accuracy and tonal purity than ever before (thanks to the ultra-sensitive and more reliable new L.R. Baggs Radiance Hex (polyphonic) piezo pickups loaded into the bridge saddles of JTV 89).

Top-flight guitar design
Designed from the ground up by James Tyler, one of the world's foremost luthiers, and manufactured in one of the world's best-respected guitar plants, JTV 89 is a cutting-edge performance tool.

Styled as a contemporary shred-machine for the player seeking optimum speed and power, JTV 89 is made with a solid mahogany body and 3-piece maple neck with reversed 6-in-line headstock, super-slick Tyler Fast n' Flat profile, and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with 25-1/2" scale length.

Translating this tonal powerhouse is a pair of custom alnico humbucking pickups, designed along the lines of vintage PAFs but with higher outputs for added sizzle and sustain. Together, these details add up to kicking lows, sweet highs, and plenty of punch in the midrange.

Round it all out with a unique new Tyler-designed fully adjustable wraparound bridge that redefines resonant coupling between strings and body (in black nickel, naturally).

Truly amazing guitar
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
I had the 1st variax model when they came out and to me that was a toy. This new JTM variax has now replaced my Jem as my main guitar. The tuners always stay in tune!!
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I have had this for 2 weeks and I have had no problem.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
This guitar is very well made and plays good enough to be your main guitar. The tones from both the magnetic stock pickups and the modeled pickups are nothing short of amazing and the new acoustic models in the software upgrade is breathtaking!! The interaction with my Pod HD 500 was the big selling point to me. If you have a HD 500 you dont have to touch a knob on the guitar. You can assign a guitar model along with the tuning of your choice in each patch. You can also assign the volume and treble knobs on the guitar to control parameters in the HD 500 giving you the ability to use the vol or tone knob as a tremolo bar, etc.... I mean wow!!!!!!
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
This guitar plays a lot like my Ibanez Jem. The neck is slightly thicker but plenty thin for fast runs. It is well balanced with a strap.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
You can literally get any tone you want!!
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
I purchased the blood red finish and I have had several people comment on how it reacts with the lighting.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
I had to lower the action a little but it was playable out of the box. Everyone has a different opinion on the action.
