Line 6 Variax 600 Modeling Electric Guitar with Gig Bag
The Line 6 Variax 600 Modeling Guitar takes the same technology and sound from the award-winning Variax family and puts over 25 historic guitar sounds into a professional grade instrument with a classic look and feel.
The Variax 600 features a comfort-contoured body, single-piece maple neck and fingerboard with rolled edges for a vintage feel, six-on-a-side headstock, custom tremolo bridge, 22 medium profile frets, 25 .5-inch scale length, and a 9.5-inch fingerboard radius. Variax 600 includes a custom-fitted gig bag, TRS cable, and XPS A/B footswitch/power supply box.
Within Variax 600 is Line 6's patented guitar modeling technology, which can accurately reproduce the sounds of a variety of well-known vintage electric and acoustic guitars, in addition to other guitar-related instruments, such as a resonator, banjo, and electric sitar. Modeled variations include solid-body, semi-hollow guitars, and hollow-body electrics with single-coil and humbucking pickups, as well as, several six- and twelve-string acoustics.
The all-new design of Variax 600 was crafted for the professional guitarist who wants incredible flexibility all in a primary instrument that works just like a traditional guitar. In addition to the standard volume and tone controls, there is a model selector knob and a 5-way selector switch, which changes the guitar models and selects the pickup position. The characteristic tone and volume control responses of each electric model are also accurately replicated, creating instant familiarity for guitarists.
Variax 600 has a standard 1/4-inch output that easily connects to any guitar amp or pedalboard setup. In addition, Variax 600 can also be digitally connected to Line 6's Vetta II amp or PODxt Live. Now it’s possible to create patches that incorporate Variax guitar models with the amp, cab and effects models provided by Vetta II or PODxt Live. Musicians now have access to virtually any guitar-amp-cab-effect combination with just the press of a footswitch. Variax 600 is also compatible with Variax Workbench, the world’s first virtual guitar custom shop for Mac or PC.

| Excellent quality on both body and neck. Very, very, durable feeling. I expect it to hold up as time passes by. Just hope the piezo bridge pickups don't fail like the reviewer before me mentioned. I owned the 700 series for about a year, and never experienced any problems with the piezo pickups in that particular guitar. | | Sound:
| I must clarify that I'm also a Vetta II owner(Vetta II Head run through a full Marshall Stack) and use the "Mystery" Jack described in the Manual. This digital cable came with the Vetta II. It's basically a high quality ethernet cable with latches on both ends so the cable dosen't get yanked out of the guitar. This cable allows the Variax and the Vetta II to communicate to each other using Midi cables connected to your computer. You will have to use Line 6 Monkey, Line 6 Edit, and Variax Workbench. To all who can't afford a Vetta II($1699.99 for the HD - $499.99 for the FBV Foot Controller), get the affordable Line 6 POD XT Live($399.99) or the POD X3 Live($399.99). Both are Variax compatible and affordable. Using either of these along with a nice amp head w/stack or combo amp, will help you realize the different tones of each individual guitar. Speaking of tone, this guitar has tons of tone. It kicks my Yngwie strat's butt. | | Reliability:
| Just got it, I'm sure it will stand up with ease. I've always tried to take the best of care with every guitar I've owned. | | Overall:
| First of all I need to thank AMS for providing the fastest shipping in the industry. I've never before received a product so fast. As far as the Variax goes, I'm a previous owner of the Variax 700 Series, so I already knew the great sounds that existed in the shell. The difference between the 700 and the 600 is vastly different, as far as shape and form. The 700 series would dig into my forearm(Les Paul Style with hard edges). I have an Yngwie Malmsteen Strat(a Double Fat Strat before that) and am so used to the beveled edge where the forearm touches the guitar. When I pick up the 600 Series, it feels like I just picked up my strat. The beveled edge, which is so comfortable, and the neck's smooth feel fit the bill and make this guitar ideal for any strat lover. | | Playability and Feel:
| This was the only area I had a small issue with. It came with 10 to 46 gauge strings. I'm a 9 to 40 or 42 guage player, so the strings of course were a bit tough to bend. Still give this a 5 though, because it's pretty easy to change to a lower gauge set of strings and the manual gives you very simple diagrams and instructions on resetting the intonation, action, etc. However, even with heavier gauge strings, the neck played extremely smooth and fast. You can bend the heck out of the strings(if your fingers are strong enough to bend 10 gauge strings) and it stays in perfect tune. Whoever set the guitar up did a great job of stretching the strings upon installation. So thumbs up to the Setup Technician. The back of the neck is pretty smooth with little resistance as you sliding your way up the fretboard. Controls are pretty accessible. Just don't plan on doing picked volume swells with the volume knob. It's just a little out of reach of the pinky finger and a little stiff. | | Tone:
| All of the above. I just cranked up my Vetta II and started riffing with different patches on the Vetta and experimenting with the different guitars on the Variax. Some of the guitar patches like the acoustics and the semi hollow bodies worked well with certain cleaner patches and others like the teles, the strat, and the different Les Pauls work great with the heavier amp patches. I especially love the Teles, the 59' Strat and all of the Les Pauls. I've played many of the above, mostly reissues of the makes, and the guitar patch sounds in the variax are almost perfect to their predecessors. The guys at Line 6 know exactly what they are doing with the amps and guit | | Finish:
| Perfect finish on the neck and body. Love the vintage white color and the maple neck is beautiful. | | Action:
| Perfect action. Just had to tune it up. Perfect intonation all the way up the neck. | | Skill Level:
