Nice drum for this price but...
Your general opinion of this product.
I got the 8 inch deep drum because deeper drums tend to choke less at higher tuning and have a little underneath bottom sound as opposed to all treble sounding crack. It accomplished that in fact, its the first drum I ever had that sounds better at high tuning than low. I was hoping being a deeper drum it would have less overtones but it has its share of unwanted overtones but all drums do. Its nothing a Remo O ring didnt't take care of, the drum sounds quite good now. It has a lot of volume and crack its a very loud drum. The notes are clean and defined at higher tuning with plenty of sensitivity. For a wetter sound tune it lower. For $239.00 it would be difficult to find a better sounding snare drum.
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Im gonna say no for this one reason, it was a very difficult decision for me not to return this drum. When I inspected it after it arrived the bearing edge on the batter side has a 2 millimeter by 1.2 millimeter dig or chip right in the center of the 45 degree cut. Its deep enough to catch your fingernail in. It took me 2 days to make a final decision to not return it because it sounds good, it looks good, and the dig is centered in the bearing edge it doesn't come up high enough to be touched by the drum head as it drapes over the apex of the edge. I seriously doubt if it will ever affect the performance of the drum. Its just something you would expect to see on an old drum, not a new one.
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
Price, appearance, and sound.
How is the tone?
Quite good with some standard muffling. Will work for classic rock music very well.
Its a beautiful Maple drum with an outside Rosewood Veneer Merlot finish and its very pleasant on the eyes. You never know if the one you get will look as good as the photos and videos, it exceeded my expectations.
Was this item an overall good value?
It would be hard to find a snare drum for $239.00 that sounds this good and AMS is letting me pay for my order in 3 payments with no interest which is waycool.
