What is your opinion of this product?
I just got the 6.5 x 14 and plan on buying the 5.5 model. This is a well-built drum with a wide tuning range, beautiful finish, and the only drum I have ever owned with snare tension adjustments on both sides. The hoops are awesome! They make for a controlled and not too ringy sound, but they still deliver great projection and nice rim taps. The stock heads are fine, but I put on a Remo Fiberskin for more of a concert sound. My new favorite snare – can’t wait to record with it! Another great drum from Mapex.

Nice drum for this price but...
Your general opinion of this product.
I got the 8 inch deep drum because deeper drums tend to choke less at higher tuning and have a little underneath bottom sound as opposed to all treble sounding crack. It accomplished that in fact, its the first drum I ever had that sounds better at high tuning than low. I was hoping being a deeper drum it would have less overtones but it has its share of unwanted overtones but all drums do. Its nothing a Remo O ring didnt't take care of, the drum sounds quite good now. It has a lot of volume and crack its a very loud drum. The notes are clean and defined at higher tuning with plenty of sensitivity. For a wetter sound tune it lower. For $239.00 it would be difficult to find a better sounding snare drum.
