Product Description

The MXL V88s Large Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone is a small profile mic with incredible sound quality! The V88s is a multi-purpose mic with a fixed cardioid pattern and can be used for vocals, instruments and overhead or room mics. A 1.25-inch large diaphragm gold-sputtered capsule and low noise FET preamp with balanced transformerless output is the key to the ultra-quiet and tonally clear performance of the MXL V88s.

MXL also gives the V88s a 3-position pad (pre-attenuation) switch with settings of 0 dB, -10 dB, and -20 db. The pad switch enables the use of the V88s condenser mic with sources producing very high sound pressure levels without overloading the internal circuitry.

General
Your general opinion of this product.
Seems like a lots of mic manufacturers are trying to make their own version of the Neumann U87 or at least target that type of sound. I'm not even going to try to compare the two - it's just too subjective. What I will say is that this mic is a welcome addition to my studio. It's warm without being muddy and has an output that is flat enough to only require small increments of EQ cut or boost to help its sound sit well in a mix. It's great deal at AMS's regular price but I practically stole it when they put it on sale for $99.99. Soooo glad I snagged one.
