Product Description

The Martin D16GT Acoustic Guitar is a solid wood dreadnought at an affordable price.
With details like herringbone inlays, 2-piece back construction, scalloped (hybrid) bracing, and solid spruce tops, these instruments sound as great as they look. The Martin D16GT features solid mahogany back and sides with black binding and, a gloss Sitka spruce top and satin finish back and sides. The Martin D16GT acoustic guitar includes a hardshell case.

Martin 16 Series
This well-established and innovative all solid wood 16 Series was originally conceived and developed as an experiment in delivering better sound without higher cost by using a combination of our proprietary bracing systems, called Hybrid X-bracing, on a solid wood instrument. Martin succeeded, and the guitar has become a longtime Martin favorite.

Standard features for the 16 Series generally include solid wood top, back and sides, patented neck mortise, and Hybrid" X-bracing. Enhanced visual appointments common on the SP or Special 16 Series models usually are found on much higher priced models, including full body gloss finish, abalone pearl rosette, and abalone fingerboard inlays.

General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
I am disappointed in the way it sounds. It is not warm and resonant. It does not fill the room the room and will not be heard by a group of singers when I lead singing at church. I guess one gets what One pays for. I am comparing this guitar to a Martin dread herringbone, with light strings that I played in 1980. I could not afford it so I bought a solid wood fender herringbone for $350, replaced the light strings with medium ones and had the sound.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Not good for leading praise music or music where you want to vary the volume. It only plays at one volume level. Does not play grungy bass. Very tight. Its body does not have much vibration when playing. I love to rest my chin on my guitar while I am playing alone and hear my hear filled with beautiful, full chords - this one does not vibrate enough to do this - I guess this is why it does not project. Out of the box I was surprised to find it perfectly tuned, but it does not stay in tune for very long and has required continuing retuning. Probably just because of the new strings.
Feel
Was it easy to reach the strings? How comfortable was the playing position?
The narrow neck is great for my tiny hands. I can easily reach the bass E string with my thumb while forming the D7 chord.
Tone
Is the tone well balanced? How does it project?
The balance is great I can hear the bass without muddying the treble, but it just does not project. Even my cheep Cort has better projection. It is almost as bad as the Matin backpacker
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Great, really distinctive. I always wanted a satin back and sides. I love herringbone.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Disappointing. My guess is that the hybrid bracing is not as good as it is advertised
