Marantz CDR300 Portable CD/CDRW Recorder

The Marantz CDR300 is revolutionary for its portable design, built-in features, and performance. The CD300 is ideal for direct to CD-R/RW live recording applications. Simply place the unit on a tabletop and plug in quality microphones to the stereo XLR or 1/4" mic/line inputs with 48V phantom power. Or use its internal microphone. Record levels can be adjusted automatically or manually.

The CDR300 is a fully professional CD recorder that uses blank computer or music CD-R or CD-RW media. A speaker for playback is built-in. You can also record you own CDs from audio sources such as CDs, LPs, cassettes, or DAT. The CDR300 also features a built-in speaker, programmable mic/line EQ, high and band pass filters, a memory buffer that prevents beginnings of tracks from being cut off, and automatic sample rate conversion.

Recommended CD-R Media
When selecting a disc for use with this unit, the general rule is that any disc manufactured to industry specifications (data disk included) will work with this burner. However, there are many discs that are either borderline or out of spec. In this instance, you may experience higher failure rates during the initialization, record or finalize process. Marantz has tested and recommend medium grade and premium grade discs from the following brands:

  • Maxell
  • TDK
  • Sony
  • Mitsui
  • Taiyo Yuden

Subject:Well designed and executed CD Field Recorder.
Overall: I bought a CDR-300 a few weeks ago and have used it to record a practice of the band I play with and tested most of the features, including recording to CDRW as well as CDR. I think this device is AWESOME! I also think it sounds better than the specifications imply. It blows away cassette (of course) and it seems to be quieter than my Tascam 34B 4-Track Reel-to-Reel deck. I hooked 2 Nady SCM950 studio mics (inexpensive Chinese-made large-diaphragm cardoid condensors) directly to the XLR inputs and used the CDR-300's internal phantom power supply and preamp. After adjusting microphone position and setting some low-end filtering (having programmable filters in the CDR-300 is really helpful!) the recordings were awesome. The band said that they were the best recordings they have ever heard of themselves... comparing them strictly to cassette and MiniDisc recordings that other past band members had done. Operation was flawless and very intuitive once you understand how i

SOUND:
THE REAL DEAL!! With automatic record levels, you can't peak out. I run my band through the PA then out of it straight into the Marantz CDR300. Instantly, we have a CD to give to clubs for a demo. Honestly, it sounds as good as a live studio recording. It also sounds good on everybody else's stereo. I wish I had this years and years ago!
