Meinl -- What Is It All About?
In the course of thousands of years, mankind has evolved into numerous distinct cultures all over the world. All of these cultures have developed their own ancient customs in which rhythm and dance have always played an important role, reflecting the rich history of these cultures.
Many rhythms were unique to individual tribes and their specific part of the world from where they originated, areas such as Africa, the Pacific Nations, Asia, the Caribbean, Native America, South America, Persia, and the Celtic Area (such as Ireland).
Up to this day, many different rhythms can be related specifically to one certain geographical region culture, or even to one tribe. All of these different cultures had one thing in common: They all developed their own sophisticated system of rhythms, instruments, and dances as a fundamental force in their rites, in which the sound of a drum was considered as the heartbeat of mother earth.
Hundreds of years later in times of sailors and discoverers, those customs were transported all over the world and the different rhythms were shared with other cultures. That created the first real “World Music”, which combined rhythms and musical styles of many different nationalities. Soon, the rhythms started to take on new developments because of new ideas from other cultures being incorporated into the traditional rites and rhythms. A development began which continues to this day.
Today, hundreds of years later, there are no boundaries anymore. We have the unique opportunity to live this variety to its fullest. A variety of sounds to choose from which not only enriches our music and artform, but also helps us to understand different cultures and their customs.
So live and play VARIETY!

MEINL -- THIS IS PERCUSSION
Meinl Percussion: Passion for Details
After 29 years of making instruments we've learned that no detail is too small. Every part adds up to making the instrument better. Better sound, more durable or more professional appearance. When it comes to crafting instruments we are always looking for ways to make them better. For example, before MEINL Cajons there was either a Peruvian or Flamenco style, but never both combined like our cajons with adjustable snare sound. For shakers, we have no limit. Think of the first tunable shaker invented ... the Spark. Or the Wah Wah shaker. Before MEINL Ibos, only fragile ceramic drums were available – now we offer more durable fiberglass and wood ibos.
For congas, think of our patented Floatune system, invented to have a freely resonating shell, with no hardware bolted to it. Our Free Ride Bongos allow for a shell free of hardware also. The height adjustable Steely II stand features many innovations from L-shaped legs to ergonomic arched rubber bracings. There are examples like this for every type of percussion instrument we make.
How do we do it? One simple word, Passion. We have a Passion for Details.
