Product Description

Built from the same technology found in MOTU’s flagship MIDI Timepiece, the micro lite is a professional MIDI interface and that provides portable, plug-and-play connectivity to any USB-equipped Macintosh or Windows computer. The micro lite provides 5 MIDI IN, 5 MIDI OUT, 80 MIDI channels and compatibility with all Macintosh and Windows software.

  • MIDI connectivity - Five MIDI inputs and outputs provide 80 MIDI channels.
  • Expansion - MOTU MIDI interfaces grow with you. Expansion is simple. Add additional MIDI ports by plugging in another MOTU MIDI interface.
  • Compatibility - Works with your favorite software. Includes drivers for Mac OS9, Mac OS X and Windows Me/2000/XP. High-speed USB connection.
  • USB-powered - Bus-powered from USB connection. No additional power necessary.

The micro lite takes full advantage of USB, giving you high-speed MIDI throughput, sub-millisecond timing accuracy, support for "hot-swapping" and plug-and-play expansion. Need to connect another sound module or synth? No problem. Just add another MOTU USB MIDI interface via any available USB port. And the micro lite is powered by the USB port — no wall wart or AC plug.

No other MIDI interface offers this much value, performance and portability at such an affordable price.

Ease of Use
I love this thing
What is your overall opinion of this product?
Fulfilled my needs for more midi I / Os. The product is easy to set up, just plug and play. Buss powered via USB, so it's a no brainier. The LEDs let you know what ports a transmitting / receiving.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How well are the controls and connections laid out?
Simple. Plug in your peripherals so that out goes to in, and in goes to out. Some peripheral devices don't require two way communication, such as in my case, an old Yamaha DX11 that was given to me. I turned off its internal midi, and use it to control soft synths in Sonar X2. I connect midi out to the midi in port (3) of the MOTU Micro Lite, and gave that port number a friendly name in midi/instruments/setup. Now instead of seeing "Input Port 3", I see DX11.
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
LEDs indicate communication by port number. The USB Buss provides its power, so no external power source is required. One of the five midi input / output ports is located on the front (as well as the back), for easy access.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
The price is a little high for basically a box, LEDs, female midi connectors, a USB output, and the internal PCB. But it beats the time it would take to build one. It's about the same price as comparable brands, but I have been using MOTU products for years. I had one problem with a FireWire interface, and MOTU had me send them the components, and bench tested them. They found nothing wrong, and charged me nothing for items long out of warranty. It turned out to be a PC software problem.
