The Kingston ZX bass from MTD is a truly special bass with an elegant look thanks to its burled maple top with stunning translucent black gloss and sensual smoked chrome hardware. The ZX bass is not all glitz and glamour, the Tobias Designed ZX bass is here for the most serious of players who know there are more important aspects to a bass then how it looks. A bass has to feel great in your hands and sound just as good and the MTD ZX meets this criteria. The ZX 5 string bass is packed tight with custom Bartolini pickups and preamp, hand-installed in the US, into its durable mahogany body. Adjust the knobs on this instruments 3 band EQ controls and you'll find that you have a bass with an extremely wide range of tones perfect for blending into (or standing out in) any genre of music.

A master of design, Mike Tobias has put more of himself into these basses than any other production line bass available. The MTD's Kingston basses are as close to a handmade Mike Tobias bass as you can get.

    Quality: The quality of this bass is great as well. Solid constiction and fairly lite weight. Extremly well made. But what else would you expect from the great mike Tobias.
    Features: This bass has it all Bart electronics, the tuners are great they keep the bass in tune even under the most agressive playing situations. Even the stock mtd strings sound great. There is nothing I would change on this bass. My grow some blue steals on later on down the line, but that's only a matter of personal prefurance
    Sound: The tone on this thing is insane. Worm clean tone. And the grawl!!!!!!! Wow this thing grawls at you doc. It has a voice of it's own nothing like it out right now. It's almost like a cross between the mtd 535 and the pre Gibson Toby. Truly a sound all it's on.
    Playability and Feel: The neck is wider then usual but I love that also. I have long fingers so it's perfect for me. It feels great in my hand. The controls are easy to get to and easy to understand.
    Tone: Very snappy sound great for slap style technique.
    Finish: The finish is stunning. The pictures don't do this ax justice. You really have to see it in up close and personal to really appreciate it's beauty.
    Action: The action right out of the box was incredible. So easy to play.... Anything you can think about you can play on this bass. Just tune up and your ready to go. Playing mainly gospel and r&b in need a bass that can respond when I play certain licks. This bass almost plays itself.
