Music Man

With a slightly thinner upper horn and a more symmetric bridge end profile, John Petrucci's Music Man JPX is a culmination of a 10 year relationship with Music Man instruments. An alder body with a maple top, ebony fingerboard and select mahogany neck provides an incredible structure for this high-quality electric. The JPX has a chambered body paired with an in-tremolo piezo bridge gives the JPX solid acoustic tones that adds versatility to this guitar that's already loaded with DiMarzio LiquiFire and Crunch Lab humbuckers.

Music Man John Petrucci JPX Features
  • Alder Body with Maple Top
  • Select Mahogany Bolt-on Neck
  • Slick, 24 Fret, Ebony Fingerboard
  • DiMarzio LiquiFire and Crunch Lab Humbuckers
  • Piezo Under-saddle Pickup for Acoustic-style Tones
  • Petrucci Music Man Floyd Rose Floating Tremolo
  • Schaller M6-IND Tuning Machines with Black Buttons

Pickup Switching and Piezo
The 5-way switch is specially wired to provide access to the individual pickup coils as well as the full humbuckers so they can be utilized both traditionally or as single coils for more tonal options. A 3-way toggle enables switching between the humbuckers and the piezo pickup or the option to use both simultaneously. The Piezo under-bridge pickup allows you to get acoustic tones during a live performance without having to switch guitars.

Outputs
The dual output jacks allow you the option of running Piezo/Mono through output 1 or Magnetic/Stereo via output 2.

Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Rock solid with attention to detail.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Did have a small issue, Ernie Ball fixed it, even though after two years it was out of warranty. Great company, awesome guitar.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
Probably the best US made guitars, this one quickly became my favorite.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Even without a locking trem, this thing stays in tune, flutters, and is capable of doing any acrobatics you throw at it. That being said, this is not just a shreddy guitar, the tone is phenomenal, played through a small tube amp all the way up to giant stack or through a pod/axefx type recording rig. Piezo for those country licks? Why not!
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
This pickup combo is going into several of my other guitars. It's that good. Love that crunchlab!
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Don't usually like guitars with paint on the neck, but this one is not sticky at all, in fact the purple paint on this makes me very happy. I want a hotrod car in this same color.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Most guitars out of the box are a little high for my taste. Easy fix. ait a couple month for it to acclimate, then spend a $100 on a setup from the best guy in town. This is true for any guitar.
