Now in its third incarnation, the Kontakt 3 builds on its reputation as the industry standard for professional sampling. The outstanding audio engine and state-of-the-art modular architecture provide unlimited sonic potential for your music. And the Universal file import ensures global compatibility as well.

Version 3 advances Kontakt's enormous efficiency, and creates a perfect synthesis between simple usability for newcomers, with a strongly extended function range for music producers and sound designers.

You will also find a gigantic selection of high end sounds! The newly designed library of Kontakt 3 contains more than 33 GB of high-quality sample materials and 1000 production-ready instruments - subdivided into six separate Instrument Collections: Band, Orchestral, World, Synth, Vintage and Urban Beats.

Get an immediate delivery of a universe of authentic, immediately usable sounds. This huge selection ranges from world music instruments to big band and on to legendary synthesizers and contemporary club sounds - from fuzz tone e-guitars to classical orchestra instruments: from realistic acoustic drum kits to the latest hip-hop loops. The Kontakt 3 Library contains numerous exclusive instruments that you just won't find anywhere else!

Kontakt 3 also offers an optimized user interface with a fresh design and innumerable detail improvements. The split rack concept offers two control levels for the simplest usability:

  • The library level for fast use of the library instruments with direct access to all important sound preferences. An individual performance view is available with tailor-made elements to control each of the 1000 instruments. The parameters relevant to that particular instrument (e.g. individual articulations, effects etc), are easily controllable without having to delve into mechanics of the instrument. Up to five performance tabs are available per instrument.
  • The Edit level with access to the complete Kontakt 3 function range.

Kontakt 3 is the first-choice sampler for every musician, producer and sound designer - from beginners to celebrated composers. It has it all!

Subject:Kontakt 3 is a Powerful, Inspiring, State of the Art Tool
Quality: It's working well on my machine after a few days of setup and research. I run a Logic 8 DAW on an Intel Mac machine. It opens as a plug-in just fine in logic, though I had to do some troubleshooting to get it to open in stand alone mode. It recalls patch instances in logic perfectly. DFD took the most effort to understand and balance.
Features: The features of this sampler are the best in it's class I'd say. The Factory Library is very good and massive the included VSL material is a standard for modern productions. Though I do prefer the EastWest Symphonic Orchestra Gold for those sounds, which was the main reason I bought the sampler, so I could run that collection inside it. There are endless effects, routing and scripting, though that is not as high a priority for me since the main goal is to maintain performance and stability in the environment. It occasionally crashes while browsing files but I am running a version of Leopard (10.5.2) that is not recommended at this time by them or my sound card maker, and usually it is after modifying preferences. Performance wise I can get at least 10 instances of the plug-in going in logic along with other plug-ins and audio. I use only one patch per instance instead of the multi mode. My specs include 4GB of Ram as well as an External HD to stream samples.
Ease of Use: Kontakt has a very big learning curve, but it is worth it for most professional uses. If you want to calibrate it for efficiency in your system this can take a bit of research. It's up to you how far you want to take it really. The GUI overall is fairly straight forward should you want to rip right into the sounds though the effects section seems a bit hidden away at first glance. The sounds are very well organized, which is good as there are thousands. There are also specific types of instrument interfaces, with unique controls for each of the groups. DFD is going to be a bit of a headache for most (they have even included a separate manual for it), if you don't desperately need the performance the default settings worked well enough. Installation was problematic because of the installer, I ended up copying the files over manually for the sample data. The included video tutorials were very helpful.
Value: I bought the cross-grade, it's market price is reasonable. If you bought a hardware sampler with not near as many options it would cost a great deal more. I think Native Instruments will be around for a while as they have been on cutting edge of innovation for many years so it should be supported.
Appearance: It's looks kind of cartoonish overall. I am not fond of the default colors..ie green. Some of the symbolism used is not obvious given the depth of menus, however there are several interactive help systems available to shed light on the features.
Skill Level: Pro-Rock Star
