Akai MPC500 Production Station Sampler

The Akai MPC500 is the first truly portable all-in-one Music Production Center. Affording artists the ability to sample and create music on-the-go, the MPC500 offers many of the same features users have grown to love in the MPC line. From rock solid sequencing and programming to expandable memory and storage options, the MPC500 is only small in physical size. Because of its great attributes, the MPC500 is great for applications such as sampling and beat creation, MIDI sequencing, live performance or traveling. Compatible with other MPC products, the MPC500 will fit in perfectly with your mobile lifestyle.

The MPC500 combines a 48-Track MIDI Sequencer and a 32-voice Stereo Digital Sampler, with 12 velocity and pressure sensitive rubber pads. 16MB of on-board memory comes standard and can be expanded up to 128 MB of RAM. When connected to a Mac or PC via its built-in USB port, you can simply drag & drop data between the computer and the MPC500's CF card.

Value:
Subject:A good portable drum sampler that fits my needs
Overall:

QUALITY:
The case feels solid to me but the data entry knob seems flimsy. The pads not as responsive as I would hope.

FEATURES:
First the Good: Battery powered, portable, 16 bit stereo sampling, The Famous MPC sequencer, import/export WAV files, SMF, On board effects, USB file exchange just to name a few. Now the Bad: 1980s style calculator display to navigate complex menues, no foot switch start/stop input, mine recognizes only MIDI notes 35-98, no battery backup on powering down, no on board mic for sampling, reverb effect seems to compete for voice allocation.

EASE OF USE:
Sampling super easy for me, but the sequencer part a little tough especially with such a small display. Sample edits tough too unless you do it by software and load the edits back in.

VALUE:
Excellent! I thought I got a good deal at AMS. Does a lot for this price point, but I wish for a better display.

Subject:Missing The Action
Quality: This product is what the industry loves. Very ease of use and drum sounds and sampling capability is awesome.
Features: The best feature will have to be the touch sensitive pad that u can assign a sample to and hit at a one shot or on a note basis. If i could add anything to it i would have to add the capability to use it with a hard drive like its parents
Ease of Use: it was so easy to turn it on that the sample sounds are right there at ur finger tips ready to be used. I learnt the full funcitions of the this item without reading the manual.
Sound: the sound is whatever u want it to be more crisp, punchy and professional sound in mono or stereo
Action: the action was ready to go to work and pleased with its condition
Value: yes it was
