Behringer Tube Ultragain MIC100 Microphone Preamp

Behringer Tube Ultragain MIC100 Microphone Preamp

The Behringer MIC100 premium tube mic/line preamp features an integrated limiter for studio, live and hard disk recording applications. It features a carefully-selected 12AX7 vacuum tube with Behringer's UTC technology for exceptional warmth and lowest noise. Using the MIC100 is a great way to eliminate the "dull" sound of standard digital recorders & sound cards. Also, it perfectly complements studio-grade condenser mics. When used as a high-end DI-box, it ensures outstanding signal integrity. Features also include a phase reverse switch, +48 V phantom power, a 20 dB pad, and balanced I/O.

The heart of the TUBE ULTRAGAIN is an extremely low-noise microphone preamp circuitry that uses discrete components and produces a highly trans-parent sound. In combination with BEHRINGER's tube technology, the operational amplifiers 4580 and a sophisticated circuit topology, the TUBE ULTRAGAIN yields excellent noise and distortion properties. The innovative UTC circuitry that has been developed by our engineering team offers an abundance of sound-shaping possibilities. Absolute musicality was BEHRINGER's major goal when we designed the TUBE ULTRAGAIN. The result is a device that, thanks to our tube circuitry, lends an incredible punch to percussion instruments. On the other hand, instruments that are rich in upper harmonics will receive more transparency. The sound will be warm, detailed and brilliant.

Subject:Inexpensive but developed noise
Overall: Owned the preamp for several months. Was very quiet at first and worked well. Sound quality was OK, but not as transparent as expected. Softened the clarity of the B1 condensor mic a bit more than ART tube preamp. After daily use become very noisy during powerup and during use developed a constant and annoying background hash/rushing noise and occasional popping. Behringer extremely difficult to get in-warranty repairs with. Low price: discarded it and bought an ART preamp -back in business - low noise again. Was probably a bad capacitor or the tube. Due to low price is this product considered disposable? Not as much of a "bargain", think twice. One year warranty is pointless. This is my first Behringer product to fail and will consider poor customer service response with future purchases.

Subject:Good value for the money
Overall: Have had this for about 6 months. Use it primarily as a pre-amp / DI for my acoustic guitar (old 50's Gibson Southern Jumbo). Does a great job at that. Have used it as a mic pre-amp and it works well there too. Warms things up nicely. Haven't had any reliability problems and I take this thing back and forth between several locations quite frequently. Seems very durable.
